Any Surveyors here?

In the bunker
I moved into the office last winter and I rarely get out into the field anymore. But I've done a ton of surveying through the woods and sometimes it gets thick enough that a rodman is necessary, however, I would rather stay solo robotic if I can. Trying to communicate to the other guy exactly where you want the prism can be more frustrating than joy-sticking the gun to find you. I've gotten robotic shots when I couldn't even see the gun through the trees. You are still going to need a machete sometimes.
The worst thing about the robotic total station is on a sunny day, with traffic around, the gun will often pick up the glare from a windshield or a turn signal lens, and before you know it, it will be facing the opposite direction.

My surveys are almost always in the woods, my concern about the robotic total station is how it will perform in heavy cover. I might rent one for a week or tw. I am currently using a topcon-303 and it has been very reliable, it is starting to show some age as is the data collector. Thanks.

From talking to other surveyors things have changed so much since I did it back in the mid 90's the bush ax was your best friend I do not know how many miles of line I cut. Also pulling chain using a plumb bob setting property corners and monuments. I always enjoyed doing curb and gutter.
