We finally booked our tickets to go to South Africa and Zimbabwe when i get back, wasnt too expensive. Thankfully i have 2 testicles and only need 1 of them..... :ack:

Anyways, i was looking into the visa requirements for South Africa on their consular site. They want proof of financial stability, like a bank statement or credit card.

Anyone out there done this recently? Last time i did this i was using my diplomatic passport and didnt have to do shit.

Not too sure i want to give anyone my bank account details or credit card info, but....

Thanks.

i've never heard of this. weird. i've been to SA something like 8 times in past 3 years and never had to do this. i imagine that clause is specifically for refugees from zimbabwe etc who have been pouring into the country.

The financial proof thing is not new, in fact it is a requirement for a visa to enter the US and many other countries. My understanding is that the level of scrutiny for US citizens is low. Just wear a gold watch and some gucci loafers when you enter the country.

I've heard of it before from a guy I used to work with that was "cyberdating" some chic he met off the internet there. Needed to show proof of financials probably so that they know you have the fundage to get back home and that you aren't a refuge or staying in the country.

Gunny,

How about a letter with the USMC / Unit logo on the letterhead, stating your good standing in the Corps; thus verifiying your employment and financial means. Just a thought...

Tell them you know the Crown Prince has contacted you and asked you to be the financial executor to his $9.5M inheritance. Print the email and show it to them.

Seriously...that's weird, but I would recommend going the military letterhead route...at least hey know it's a stable employment and you are going to get your paycheck.

Just make sure you are really clear that this is a pleasure trip. South Africa isn't fond of militray men "moonlighting" on their soil.

I'm sure i could use a letter, or just one of the credit cards i dont use.

I will check with the embassy first about telling them that i am in the military, i dont need any raised eyebrows.

Just found out that we are going to Mozambique to fish, cool. :)

The SA visa paperwork asks a lot of questions, looks like they may have revamped their requirements, they want the ID number of my wifes grandmother for proof of who we are staying with.

O well.

O, i wont be fishing fresh water in Moz. My father in law is a member of the Central African Deep Sea Angling Society and one of their touneys is going then. Should be a friggin awesome time.

Been around the crocks in Zim and Uganda plenty, not something to mess with. Wont find me in a canoe on the Zambizi.

3rd day into my tour in Zim i had to console a family on holliday who just had thier 17yr old daughter taken out of a canoe and eaten in front of them. Not cool. They shot 2 huge crocks and she was in both.

I will be doing some Tigerfish fishing on Lake Kariba, and hopefully some fly fishing for them on the Zambizi.

May cant get here quick enough!

90 day stay or less does not require a visa for a US citizen, it is right on the link you posted.

Aaa, Fuck. :ack:

I looked right at that thing 10 times. Guess i got fixated on the paragraph below about green card holders.

The wife will need one since she is Zimbabwean still.

Thanks, you saved me $88.

And no you cant have it instead. :smilelol:

My niece just finished a stint as mideast VP for proctor/gamble based in Jo-bourg. While there, my sister visited. My sister is the least financially stable person you could imagine and they let her in for three weeks. If she could get in, anyone can.

Also, as I'm sure you're aware, wearing valuable jewelry in any African country will almost certainly result in unwanted attention. My niece wisely left her Rolex with a friend of mine in NYC when she went.

While I've not been there, one of my very best friends is an RSA ex-pat, now naturalized American citizen. I have learned much from him.

Gunny I am glad you asked all your friends about the visa requirements for a country to which most have never been to instead of asking your wife who let me remind you has been there enough times that she could almost say she lived there. Everytime we applied for a visa proof of financial security was asked to be provided! If you want to provide a letter with your usmc logo on please be my guest but when they detain your stupid ass for being foreign military, who might be spying or some shit on them, don't come crying to me!

If you have any further questions regarding your visa contact your father in law. He may be able to help you!

Hope your paid for cruise is going great!
