I just checked craigslist. 5 out of 7 need engines, 1 needs a transmission, and 1 just needs replacement coil packs, an easy diy fix

rtonder on LRF is a big Freelander guy...http://landroverforums.com/forum/members/rtonder-22319/

He is a big proponent of the KV6. I am not an expert on his posts, but he seems to be of the impression that if you keep the cooling system maintained, it will last.

I didn't look at the link, but he is a fucking idiot if he thinks cooling system maintenance is the problem with Freelander motors. Its a wet cylinder liner with basically some Right Stuff separating the coolant from the oil. At my last job, we put a motor in a Freelander, and the replacement motor had coolant in the oil and was replaced again in under 5k miles. Cooling system maintenance is not going to make the upper intake, vacuum lines, cooling fan ECU, or expansion tank last any longer. Lets not forget the rear window regulators, sunroofs, transmissions, driveshafts, and diff mounts... There is a reason why my Freelanders that get towed to the dealership leave on a tow truck as well.

Ya the k series v6 is horrible. I saw them come in with rods sticking out, and they weren't overheated or have cooling issues... Just blew up.
The rest of the car is about on par with a econobox.

The euro diesel manual transmission manual windows models are much more reliable.

Jimmy forgot to mention heater cores ,vac leaks at fittings in the manifold , throttle body issues , ecm drivers burning up making it not fire coils or injectors , ignition switches that make people replace hazard or turn signal switches . These cars are the worst car built by any maufacturer ever . I think the Yugo may have been a better car. I wouldnt give you a half a can of cat shit for one .

It looks like freelanders might be a good source of a/c and recirculation buttons for D1s. Looks to be almost the same button, but different enough to not wear out every 5 years.

A few years ago I met a couple that lived not far from me that had two of them in their garage. Seeing one in a garage was impressive, but with two they must have liked them. Oddly enough they did and only one had a new transmission. I'm pretty confident they are both tits up.

Those cars looked like pieces of shit on the showroom floor and they proved that since then.

They are terrible cars but I actually don't mind driving them. I always assume anyone I get that's still running is going to blow up no matter what you do to them so I flog them like rented mules. Their cornering ability at 70 miles an hour is fairly impressive. They will actually surprise you off road too, as long as you keep momentum their traction control will take you through some deep muck. Once you get stuck you are done though, basically just leave it there and walk home.

According to Steve Young, they will run circles around a Defender off road.

I remember somebody saying that stupid shit here before . I went to the launch of that piece of shit . I felt bad cause I kept ripping the front bumper cover loose at the bottom . They were proud of this shitbox at the beginning .

Did they correct the issue with the motors? Did the replacement motors actually hold up?
