It is pretty convenient to swing into Walmart to buy a 100 shell pack of ammo. I think I've decided to stick with 12. So much easier than carrying around the individual boxes. Have been keeping an eye on Black Friday sales at the big box stores but have not seen any deals on what I'm looking for

Yes, there is more 12 than 16. I never said there wasn't. But to act like finding 16 is akin to finding the grail makes you full of shit.

I've got a 16 and I love it! Not overly concerned about not having a Way Mart carry ammo for it. I've got enough.... Depends on what your buying the gun for and how much you think you'll use it. If infrequenty then there isn't a damn thing wrong with a 16 as your only shotgun. Mine has knocked down dove, grouse and 1 turkey.

Don't get me wrong, a 16ga is a great gun. I love mine as well. But good luck finding any thing other than 7 1/2 shot over by your house, JB.

I went on a dove hunt a few years back in Charles City, VA. The guys decide last minute we're getting up early to goose hunt. I went to Green Top, Bass Pro and Wal-Mart looking for some steel shot. Nothing in 16ga. Ended up buying a new 12ga.

That's the thing...having ammo.

Folks I know who have 16s, if they see any 16 ammo, they buy it - all of it, or as much as they can afford. They also reload, which makes a world of difference (of course, finding hulls ain't easy either). Then you can make steel, bismuth, etc. shells.

I face the same thing with my .45-70. Amazing gun/round, but useless unless you reload.

Come to think of it, also kind of like Land Rovers - great vehicles, but useless unless you can work on cars.

Benelli?s are super nice but not needed here I*t* sounds like. I have one and wouldn?t recommend to someone who isn?t a gun snob (I.e i assume you?re not, that?s why you?re posting here). I also shoot an A5 Browning and an O/U Browning Citori. Haven?t looked at costs lately so they may be out. Look for a used one, guns are like bikes and Rovers, someone?s always selling to get something else. If I had to pick between those, Id chose the A5 simply because you said you also want to dove hunt. If you?re mostly shooting Sporting clays, over /under without a doubt so you can use different chokes.

I once went to Advance Auto, Napa, and Autozone looking for a FPR for a '96 D1 - none had one. I didn't go out and buy a new truck. Again - depends on how much you hunt and how "attached" you are to a particular gauge/gun. Rovers, 16's, and Snow Peak Stoves: There can be a price to to pay for "something different" and that's something the owner must be comfortable with. (Faulconer Hardware. here in Orange had parts for Coleman Stoves but no Snow Peak stoves...If you lived here you would have had to sell your Snow Peak and buy a new stove!)

Maybe this entire thread was for nothing - I picked up a Beretta A300 with walnut stock and 28" barrel on a Black Friday sale yesterday. It was $200 off plus a few other so ended up paying just over $500. Hard to beat that. Need to get some heavy loads through it to break it in as it's not consistently cycling yet
