Bad Fuel Pump???

I was cruising along at 75 in my 95 Dsicovery and suddenly the engine just shut off. I coasted to a stop and let it sit a while then tried to restart it. When I do, it starts right up but then immediately sputters then dies out. Pushing the gas pedal seems to keep it sputtering longer but it does not rev at all.

I am thinking fuel pump. Would anyone agree?

Also, what is a good place to get a fuel pump. There are plenty of aftermarket ones showing up in $70 range with a google search but I don’t want to by crap.

Thank goodness this didn’t happen when in the middle of a climb or something off road.

Will Tillery is an excellent source for fuel pumps. I have bought a couple from him for my different Rovers over the years and they are all still running on those pumps. Replacing the pump may not be a bad idea if it's the original or you don't know the vehicle history, but consider other causes of the problem, too. Such as the fuel pump wiring harness, among others.

You should be able to hear the pump humming with the key in Position II. If not, pull the plug and check it for voltage with a meter or test light.

I posted that in the tow truck on the way to my mechanic. We got it there and checked and there was no fuel pressure at all. I think my guy normally buys from Rock Auto. Looks like they have three from cheap to ridiculous...pick the one in the middle?

If it were me and I didn't need the vehicle tomorrow I'd go with Will Tillery or the Bearmach from LRDirect.com for $86.25 shipped. You'd probably get it faster than RockAuto too.
