Thought it was a typo, as I forgot about the whole "Overtym" thing. I don't use Facebook, though, so it's easy to forget this crap. I know RTE sucks ass, and I've had stuff from those glory days, and it sucked ass too.

God damn people need to get their shit together. Brand identity matters. There should be no confusion in a name, and a website is kind of important. Have I just missed the site somehow?

I know Denny doesn't have anything to do with it. I'm about to make his rear bumper with a couple of changes for my own vehicle. Well, I'm about to cause it to be made, anyway. I want the rear end done before I ship it off for other stuff.

Cheers,

Kennith
Im with you there. I have never been a fan of RTE. When I first got my Rover I wondered why their products were so much more expensive than everything else on the market. Once it came time to really start modifying my truck I had no choice but to get their adjustable shock towers and front lower shock mounts as they were the only company making them. This was after Bill sold it to the random guys in NJ. The welds sucked and shock towers weren't designed well enough. They were way too tall. I ended up having 3" taken out and got them rewelded. Now they are actually adjustable both ways. When I asked Ryan from RTE about it. He said "Well, no one else has ever complained" I told him because most people dont actually build their own suspension and just order blindly from them thinking that its all been thoughtfully designed. I should add, that it took them about 2 months to get me me shock towers delivered. Every week it was a different story as to why they hadnt shipped.

But then I found out that Bill was doing Overtyme... (still doesnt make sense to me), but whatever. He built me my front radius arms for a fraction of what RTE was selling theirs for. And they were the EXACT same product. I even had Lucky8 send him my polybushings and he pressed them in for me. AND he shipped them back to me free of charge!! I had just contacted him about doing the rears since my bushings are shot and I need to do something, but thats when he told me he sold it to Luke. Im going back and forth on if I should get the corrected rear arms from Luke or just 4 link it.

I had a similar experience with RTE. Not interested in doing business with them anymore, among one other rover supplier I'll leave unnamed...

Let me know what you do, I'm in the same boat - bushings shot, pinion angle sucks. Panhard is working well, but clearances are a struggle. A 4-link sounds interesting. I don't know of anyone who does lengthened/corrected rear arms

Every time I hear this come up I feel like I'm the only white guy in a black hair salon.

The history of Rovertym in a nutshell:

...They was wrong, girl. Then Tamequa sold it to Shana, and you Aint. Gonna. Believe what that woman did! Oh no you ain't; so shut you mouth, and not a word of a lie, those braids? Uh uh, girlfriend. Hey-l no! I saaaaaid Ruby never shouda had her hair did on a Thursday, but you know she don't listen good. Then Demetrius bought that shit, and let me tell you one thing about Demetrius; that negro be a business man. He skrate up right, sista; wear a Sunday suit and everythin'. Brotha probably has a god-damned briefcase, MmHm. You betta flex yo stuff when he come in that door, girl, cus he don't need no sugar momma.

HA! I finally found the 3D model of the HLC rear bumper.

That sure took a while, but I couldn't remember the format or file name. Go figure it was "bumper"...

Wow this is the most inaccurate statement I've seen you make, I know you probably do a lot more extreme than us but RTE from the Steve Turner days is still what I look for when I do a build it's clean design, Great welds, great fit, tough as nails. I wouldn't touch anything post Steve not just the poor quality but real poor customer service.

The Overtym was a brilliant rip off when Bill sold to the Jersey boys and retained all the designs .... stupid deal

Denny's bits were ok wish he could have stayed with it and hired a business manager but...

I'm sure RTE cranked out some high quality products. I've just never seen one.

No, I'd say quite a few here are likely to abuse their actual bumpers more than I do, aside from winching. I've historically done quite a bit more winching than most, and a fuck-ton of side loads; but mainly for utility purposes. I do try not to get stuck, and I don't appreciate the sensation of landing on a rock at all. That doesn't mean I haven't beat the shit out of stuff, I've just likely done it less often on hard trails than others here.

Of course, their bumpers have historically been tough, but that's not surprising. That's not all I look for. Everything aside from springs I've ordered from RTE, at any time, was not very well constructed. I spoke with Overtym yesterday, actually, but I'll have to wait until next month to get hold of the man. I wanted to speak with them about the HLC stuff.

Those shock mounts I was griping about are still down at the machine shop as an amusing example of how not to make something.

Denny's designs were outstanding. I like to see that level of thought put into things if they cost more than a grand. I like to see people continue to improve and actually attempt to find more effective ways to build things. When you're doing rock blades, there's not much to improve, but when you're doing more "overland" stuff, which will involve more protection from collisions and provide multi-function work surfaces, the details start to have more importance.

The shit just plain gets heavy as hell. You don't need that extra design time, but damn... That doesn't mean people shouldn't try.

The guys building for other vehicle manufacturers are many steps above the guys building for Land Rovers. It's not even the same league. It doesn't have to be this way.

Look; production quality on my Trek bumper is actually pretty low. I'm not above something that just works and that's it. That doesn't mean I have to appreciate the lack of attention to detail.

Who cares, in the end? It's the same shit either way. It always has been.

That mythical era in which they were supposed to be the cat's ass of quality simply did not exist.

I’m going to have to strongly disagree with you on this. Steve Turner’s quality was about as good as it gets.

And yet that specific era is when I bought the worst shock mounts I've ever seen in my life... Twice.

Utter garbage in every respect, and they had two shots at it; the second time building them to order, or so they indicated.

Actually, I'll probably be working with someone to build the HLC rear bumper for myself soon. I may change it, I may not. It's actually very well designed, but there are some things that I'd alter in an ideal world. It just depends on time and energy.

I designed a few, and had one that I wanted to use that was highly focused on being light weight, but honestly I just don't feel like messing with it. I need a rear on that thing sooner than I'll get that made, because it was a little complex in construction and used expensive materials.

I've got a Greg Davis rear, and it's obviously a good bumper, but I really don't think it's what I should be running. I need the meat back there to step on, use for stuff, and so on. That's really a bumper more effective for technical trails; though there is indeed plenty of cause to use one regardless. I do like it, and I really wanted to use it, but I just don't think it's the best choice for my use case.

When you're 5'7", you kind of get used to having things to stand on, and if it doesn't work out, that's a lot of cutting I can't take back... It's too bad I'm not more into trails, because that's about as tight as you can get without tubes.

Good mod, but I already put in the new ashcroft lockers and am not keen on taking them out again, haha. The tactical rovers should do the trick, hoping they protect the drain plug better than the Terrafirma's. If anyone is interested in my terrafirma guards, pm me. I'll include a super high-tech rattle dampener (piece of rubber sandwiched at the bottom)
