Ok, so my kid brother (who lives in England) is currently somewhere between England and Switzerland, in a 2016 Discovery 4 TDV6...top of the line with all trimmings, with wife and three kids, 4 bicycles and a couple of paddle boards....

And the truck is playing up. he says "unmitigated disaster".... He has a christmas trees of warning lights. Stopping the truck then restarting make them go away for a few miles or KM.

My first question to him (he has no clue about cars-He didn't even know he had a tow hitch on it) was can you tell the battery voltage.....he can't... Or can he if he knows how to look. Forget anything technical. He took it in to add a tow hitch only to be told it already has one....

My reaction to his description, is that the battery (assume there is only one, I don't know) could be failing. I don't know when they tend to do this. Or Alternator.....

Any way to tell the battery voltage on a stock D4/LR4? What alternative issues could be going on?

Edit. He tells me its done this before, the speed restricted warning comes on (not good on an autobahn) .....

He made it there. Going to the dealership. Apparently it did this before right after he bought it used. Wonder if the relative lack of use followed by an 850 mile drive has anything to do with it.

Just for shits and giggles have someone take the fresh air inlet off the throttle and look inside the throttle. There is a steel reinforcement that can come out of the plastic air inlet pipe. If that thing has come out of it's correct position it ends up in the throttle. If this is whats going on it's the 3rd one I've seen.

I havn't seen that code on a Diesel. But I would still look in the throttle. Not sure how many miles on this truck but what I've seen is they are starting to get a lot of carbon buldup. enough to keep egr valves from opening and closing. it really don't like something about that throttle. Either a bad connection, broken wire, or something not letting the throttle be where it's commanded to be.

It made it the trip back. He's not admitting to problems....says it ran great.....Its only 740 miles or so door to door. Think he was more concerned with the ever changing COVID travel restrictions.....traveling from Switzerland, France etc
