Hi all,
In my old Volvo 240, there was a simple way to bypass the temp gauge regulation (the thing that turns the temp gauge into basically an idiot light, hilariously labeled "temp faker" on the circuit board). This gave a surprisingly precise temp reading based on my tests. You could even watch the little overshoot dance as the thermostat first opened. Since the D1 is from the same era, I wondered if anyone's figured something similar out to get a useful temp gauge in the cluster.
I realize an aftermarket gauge would do the job, but I really found it handy to have a functional temp gauge right in front of me. It caught a leaky radiator once that the factory gauge wouldn't have registered until it overheated. Maybe I should just pick up a spare cluster and mess around...
Cheers,
joe
