I talked to D&D today and asked if cam bearings for a Buick 215 would work for the above application. They said no and offered Federal Mogul bearings for around $100. I looked on the D&D site and looked at the cam bearing part number. There are 2 options, Federal Mogul and Dura-Bond #'s 1421 and B-11. I was at a parts counter when I called and the guy handed me a set of Dura-Bond bearings for a Buick 215 ($55) part# B-11. It says B-11 on the box and below that it says "interchangeable with 1421m" .

Has anyone ordered these before and do I have the right ones?

I have buick 215 cam bearings installed in the 4.6l I'm building. I just called NAPA and ordered bearings for a 60's buick V8. I took the bearings and the cam to the machine shop and they installed them for $40 or so.

Why would you reuse a cam?

Because its free and going in a vehicle that is rarely driven. I only replaced the cam bearings because they were totally shot. FWIW I put new lifters on the original cam (at 105k) and as far as I know its still going strong 50k miles later. It would take me years to even put 1K miles on my RRC.

The 2 cams I've removed from Rovers one at 122k nc another at 222k they were extremely worn.

Were they causing any problems? I'm sure the motors didn't run at their optimal performance level, but I've only seen two cams cause any real problems, both of which had completely wiped out lobes.

Zombie thread, I know.
Anybody have more experience with the Dura-Bond B-11 camshaft bearings?

I'm rebuilding a 4.6 RR block that been adapted for 14CUX(front cover).
I just ordered everything for the engine from the UK and somehow forgot the camshaft bearings!
I'm wondering if the Dura-Bond will work at half the price of the STC1961?

My other concern is the front bearing looks different even between bearing sets with the same part#. Like these from AB. Is that something I should be concerned with?? Mine definitely have the diagonal reliefs.

i use the dura-bond ones all the time although i usually just replace the front bearing since its almost always the one with all the wear and easily accessed. Just make sure you line up the oil hole. If the other bearings are worn to the point that they become pitted i usually just grab another block.

Thanks for the feedback! Think I'll give them a whirl. It is mainly the front one that is worn. It has a line on the bottom that doesn't pass the fingernail test, probably from me pulling the old camshaft out(oops).

I got cam bearings from Rover one time, maybe 15 years ago. It came as one long tube that I had to cut and put a lube hole in it. One of the most fucked up thing I ever saw.

That sounds absurd!
Does anyone know if the Rover camshaft bearings need to be removed/installed in a certain direction?
