what do I need to install a CD changer in my 2003 DII? I understand that the LRhead unit speaks Alpine M, so I can use an Alpine model 620/630 correct? Do I need the associated cables, or are those already in the truck and just not in use without the changer?

surely it aint as easy as buying the 630, and plugging it in, is it?

OK, that blunt response informs me that I will have to buy and install the harness for the changer, but does not address the question as to what changer. Is my LR head unit an Alpine speaking animal (does it use the M-bus protocol)?

At the very bottom of that page there's an email me link for the guy who did the install. Beyond that article I'm not really sure. The stock CD changer in my 2003 is an alpine though so I'm guessing the head unit is "an Alpine speaking animal".

smooth, the 630 is the replacement for the 620, and they're both M-bus. Mr Snowboard, is there a model no. on your changer, or is it labeled "Land Rover"?

anybody got a part nunmber for the LR cable?

related question, anybody use the "Blitzsafe LROV/ALP DMX V.1D Dual Alpine CD Changer & Auxiliary Input Converter"

http://www.logjamelectronics.com/blitzlrovalpdmxv1d.html

or similar animal? allows you to run an additional aux source, such as an iPod, using RCAs right alongside your changer.

I'm getting ready to launch this bloody project, and I'd like to do this just once!

Thanks fellas!

I haven't looked in awhile but I'm pretty sure it just says LandRover. I'll try and remember to look and post back.

I recently installed Alpine 630 changer in my 01 Disco II. I bought the changer and blitz adapter as a set online (I can't remember the name of the online store, and will post later once I get home) for $237 including shipping and handling. If you already have the connection port under your passenger seat, you may not need the blitz adapter (again, I'm not sure). My Disco is a SD7 and it did not have anything that resembled the changer connector, so I purchased the set.

Installation was a breeze once you get the stereo out. I tried with a metal piece for about 5 minutes and realized that taking out the stereo was not my forte. Took my Disco down to a local stereo shop and the guy there took something like 60 seconds with a couple of 'keys' to pop the stereo. From there, it was a super smooth install, although pushing the stereo back in with the somewhat bulky blitz adapter took some wiggling. FYI, I opted to leave my changer in my glove compartment unattached for convenience purpose, and I'm very happy. I will let you know the name of the vendor once I get home and find my invoice.

Update: The name of the vendor is www.autotoys.com
