You said you spent half the day getting it to move, how did you do that? Did you remove the center console?
I recently installed DI CDL shifter in my DII. I got the shifter from a wrecking yard, & the owner of the truck it came out of must not have ever used it because it was totally siezed. I clamped it in a vise & soaked it with penetrating oil. After a while, it began to free up a bit. Over the next few days, I continued to soak it & move it left-right & up-down, until it was loose as a goose.

Yes, I removed the console... I got it to move perfect in every direction until I connected the selector rod back on...

I think I've read about the nipple not rotating (cdl stuck inside the t-case), but I have no personal experience with that.
Have you used the CDL recently, or is something stuck because it has not been used in a long time?

keep woking it. Penetrating oil and worse case a little bit of gentle persuassion. If you don't use it you loose it. The linkage get rusted in place and needs to be worked free.
