If you haven't watched it, watch it. Wow...Amazing show.

I now also know that 1980s Soviet Apparatchiks are the same as modern-day American middle managers. :(

The show has spiked tourism in the area. Disaster Tourism is a growing segment around the world. You fly into Kiev and take a bus to the area. You spend the day touring the site and of course end at the gift shop. They check your radiation levels going in and out. Someone decided it is safe.

I remember this time well. Including pediatricians - doctors and nurses alike - tending to evacuated children from Chernobyl, still wearing original clothes with radioactive dust. Needless to say medics weren't told a thing. Many of them suffered from consequences of radiation exposure for years afterwards - nothing was acknowledged in any way.
