Coil springs

Ok so this COVID crap has given me some time to ponder. My truck is a d2. Ultimately I would like to achieve a 4.5ish lift with springs only and also retain the ability to flex. Obviously supporting mods would be needed. So it seems fj80 springs would work on on a discovery 1 with the spring retainers inverted. It seems stock fj80 springs yield 2 inch lift on d1s. So I wonder what a set of fj80 2 inch flexi coils would yield on a d2? I like that the flexi coils are longer and progressive. Seems some spring pressure on tire during max articulation would be better than a tire with no spring pressure. Anyone have any experience with fj80 coils in a d2? Or is just a bad idea all together

I've never seen any threads anywhere regarding FJ coil swaps into a Disco. But that's just me.
Sounds like a Pirates project. Those guys are into swapping Toyota axles, birfs, diffs, this and that into RRC's and D1's. Not so much D2's, but I haven't been over there for quite awhile.

There is an older old man emu catalog pdf floating around that has free length, spring rate, and OD of all the things they offered. You should be able to get a pretty close idea of what those springs would do with that data if you can find it. A quick google turned up nothing. It used the older rover spring part numbers back when there were only regular or HD options

I did find that document. D1/d2 range in the 15-16 inch range. 110’s go as high as 17 but with 420lb/inch. Might be too stiff. The fj80 can be in the 20-22 range. Fj80 has huge market in selection and rates. I called/ emailed a bunch of spring companies and flat out told me no. CSS springs said they can make them but too damn pricey with no track record.

110 rears are a different diameter and would need new coil buckets on the frame

Fj80 Stuff look around 4” longer than stock with a higher spring rate. I think youll end up with a monster truck

Very true. I wonder if I can get a 2 inch spring and maybe trim it like the old days. But then it seems like a lot of work for a Mickey Mouse job. It would be nice if the Land Rover aftermarket kept

The truck I'm building now was really tall like your thinking. I have some parts I took off it that you might be interested in. The truck didn't have all the vibrations I would have expected. He had double cardin front and rear shafts in a D1. He had some spacers in the prop shafts to make up for the longer distance from t case to axle. Also some radius arms with caster correcting bushings. Long shocks and spacers for the rear shocks.

You can lift the truck 4 inches without any problem at all. The hard part is going to be keeping the vibrations acceptable. And thats going to be mostly driveling angularity issues.

Spring rate would go up and youd have a crappy non closed and ground spring seat. Spacers would be a better solution

These probably had this truck up 5 in. Somehow the prev owner made it drive incredibly smooth with no vibration at speeds.

Are they still making anything? Like calling it overtime or something?
That was on their web site this morning so I assume they have something going. I would at least call them before I would try to kludge Toyota springs on the truck.
That spring likes like someone took something way to long then hit it with a torch.

Nothing wrong with Rte. I have called them recently. I’m actually using their shock mounts. They are active and shipping during COVID. Too properly use ther front turrets you need a tall spring. Im at 4.5 with springs and Spacers. Just looking for a more efficient way. Once the spring dislocates there is no pressure and the tire just free wheels. A taller progressive spring might help. It might not. Just the jeepers and the yotas have developed a market for it while we are still in ome 2 inch spring days

What spring is that stew?

A new guy was telling me somebody is making bumpers under the safrigard trademark, and somebody else is fighting him for the trademark. I'm trying to get around to looking into that.

Don't trick me into picking on people anymore.

Those springs are stupid. I almost dropped the truck getting them out. when the axle was finally far enough away from the upper seat, the truck was starting to shift off the pads and the jack I had under the frame was shifting.
