confused on RRC axle shafts

I have a lot (and I mean a Lot ) of play between the right rear hub driver and axle shaft. I'm trying to find replacements, but I'm coming across mixed info. I know the inner is 10 spline, Outer is 24. When I go looking for part numbers, I find either an axle with 24 inner splines (FTC870)
or a 10 spline axle with the hub driver part of the axle (571883). What would be the correct part number for the axle and hub driver?

IIRC my 91 were 10 spline at diff and had a solid drive flange. I imagine 10 spline solid drive cap axles are still readily available at very little to no cost from Will, Paul and others. You may also be able to replace the flange. I may still have some flanges floating around I would be happy to send you for a bottle of Elijah Craig

That was always the confusing part for me. Inner on a 1990 are 10 spline. All RRC appear to have 24 spline front axles, but that's just the outer portion. I believe the outer all look that way. I kept thinking I had trucks with full 24 spline axles until I got them apart and everything was 10 spline even with build dates as late as October 1993.

I once (because of lack of knowledge) bought a set of rear shafts from a 91 RRC that were 10-spline in, 24-spline out, and had detachable drive flanges. Go figure.

Can you take a pic of the flange? The early axle components seem to be hard to find. There's a mushroom flange type that used imperial measurements. The one-piece shafts are the way to go, but I'm not sure they'd fit your hubs.

I have a Video if the outer part of the drive flange (and the axle play).

Man. I swear my 10 spline rear shafts were one piece? I swapped them to 24 spline years ago, need to rustle up those flanges

There are one piece and two piece shafts. Hard to discern what year when with which axle. I'm convinced my truck was made before a strike or on a friday. There are things in a NAS truck that shouldn't be there and factory parts not installed correctly.

I have a line with a local parts guy for a replacement. I'll get back with you if that deal doesn't work out.

My best guess is you either actually have 24 spline axles or you have FTC870/FTC871 which I've seen referred to as both 24 and 10 spline. I'm guessing they're 10 and that's what you've got. See here: https://www.island-4x4.co.uk/halfshaft-1024-spline-genuine-ftc871-p-36061.html

FTC870/871 are specified up to HA610293, which would make sense.
See here: https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/parts/index/part/id/L3.L3B.L3B05.L3B05025/brand/land-rover/

The hub flanges in your video look like the common FTC859/RUC105200.

Those shafts are NLA though, so I'd say your options are either used shafts and new hubs or go all 24 spline.

One thing is for sure. That’s a lot of slop. I think with all the variables I’d pull the shaft and take a look to see what on the diff end of things.
Diff end is tight. I tested it when putting the axle back in and there was almost no movement. If I move the flange further inward, the slop goes away. It's just where the two have been in contact for 30 years that's worn.

I kick myself for not grabbing the whole axles from under the truck Chad (AzArmadillo) was parting out.

I have a LA VIN, which is three years past that. But then again, left over or ROW parts?

Will these work:
I don't remember mine having the hump towards the outside end, but the bottom two look to be correct.

Maybe I missed something. You said it's a 1990 which means it should have a GA VIN, and the parts being up to HA would have made sense. LA VIN would be 1994.

I'll have to check the truck tomorrow, but the VIN on the insurance card is SALHV1249LA41xxxx. Build date on the door sticker is Nov 1989.

Every other site (besides that one) shows the 10th digit L as 1990

edit: Nothing on that site past SAL matches up with my VIN.

I got a one piece axle from a local club member (92 donor truck). It fit for length, it fit the differential, but the holes to attach it to the hub are too small. the bolts I got with it are a different thread and pitch than the stock bolts.
