Converting from Manual to Auto

As fun as the manual is around town, the plan for my 94 is a trail truck. As such I'm leaning more and more towards an auto conversion. Something my wife and kids could drive if needed/wanted.

What all will I need/have to do to make the conversion?

What about flywheel?

I have what was a good working auto, but when I pulled it one of the ears fell off. How big of a deal breaker is that? Pics attached.

should be a hp22
just off the top of my head

you are going to need a way to attach the down shift cable to the throttle.
you should rework the wiring to add the "overtemp" warning light.
flywheel. trans cooler . x member new mounts ,
locking solenoid in the shifter ? (add a brake light switch circuit.) if wanted

The ear is the governor housing, I broke mine too and swapped in a used one. The governor is only a few inches thick, easy swap. Pick up a new oil seal while you're at it, there's also a little o-ring in the output shaft behind the bolt

You might be able to get away with using that one but I don't think it's worth it

Thanks Gary.
- can I swap in an Auto pedal box that will take care of the down shift cable mount?
- I'll look into the over-temp light.
- I wish I had saved some parts from the 3 auto D1's I've scrapped over the years... but I do have a 96 on its last legs.

ABS. The holes in the console overlap so it fills the unused portion and provides a lip around the shifter hole that gets cut for the shifter boot to clip to

Check with PT i think you may need an ecm from an auto truck

Not on a 94/95. The transmission harness for a manual has a resistor shorting the park neutral switch pins to let the ecu know which transmission it has
