this is my 4th rover. First 96 though so no distributer.

I did a quick tune up on it last night, and when changing the spark plug wires i noticed

1. they were Lucas brand
2. they had waxoil on them.

Could someone have actually kept the same wires on their truck from 96 with 126k miles on it from day one. If so,that has to be a record, or do the genuine replacements from a dealership come coated too?

yes, I could have. Replaced my wires because I though I should have, for no real reason. The new set is definitely worse in quality than the OEM.

I still have the original wires...95K on the clock and decided I'd better leave them alone while the going is good. If it starts skipping, I'll replace them.

My husband's 99 Explorer Sport had the original wires for about 100K miles...it started skipping and we replaced them. No problems before or after.

Lucas did something right?
i just remembered that i could have gotten magnacore or another performance brand off rover something.com
Put those on my 95 and they were just fine
but to think that they'd coat the replacement wires too is odd

I'm running Lucas replacement wires on my 95 D1 and they were not coated. I just replaced them last fall.

Yes, plugwires actually tend to hold up pretty well if you don't move them around. The whole act of taking them off, changing plugs, etc, puts some of the worst wear on them.

I would watch for any performance issues after changing the plugs if you keep the same old plugwires, though.

Code 1193 is probably an issue with an o2 sensor. My several 1193 codes were caused in order by. sensor becoming unplugged from ecu 2 times, first time under truck and second time at rear of head. Hard to get at. third code was bad rear sensor at rear of cat. I replaced them both so I don't know which one it was.
I hope this is some help
