I hung two hummingbird feeders yesterday and they're already being visited.

Still trying to get grass to grow.

My bird feeder seems to house all the grass that's supposed to be in my lawn. Every time I buy the stuff, I end up with a little garden in there. :ROFLMAO:

The birds don't seem to care, though.

Cheers,

Kennith

laugh all you want, but it works.

last year i used pennington seed with that green roll out mat. it worked great BUT that mat doesnt really break down so it creates a thatch that killed the grass trying to come back.

since we are in a swamp i have to use a good seed mix for our region. a company in pennsyltucky makes a good blend that works great in my soil and climate BUT the nursery stopped selling it because people wouldn't pay the money for it. 50 pound white burlap sack of majic

I wish I could figure out how to get the weeds out of my yard. I don't really care about a perfect lawn, but that means more mowing. I'd just let it go for the most part, but I do have one neighbor, and they keep their yard looking great, so I don't want to let them down.

Everything was cool until I had it leveled, and they used top soil they'd removed from a field when building a road to do so.

That's really not hard to do. Just figure out what weeds you're dealing with and proceed accordingly. Grassy weeds (crabgrass/goosegrass) apply a pre-emergent. Broadleaf there's multiple ways to go. I'm in the golf industry so not sure what's available for the home owner but a local co-op might be a good place to start.

In the golf industry, huh? We can all take a few pointers from one of the all-time greatest authorities on lawn care:

When I first moved in, I spent quite some time pulling 200 weeds a day with one of those things that looks like a mechanic's pick-up tool.

Then the leveling happened, and now I'm not about to pull any weeds. I tried torching them, but that didn't stick.

I'll have a look around the golf scene or something and see what's what. I don't want to kill any bugs, because the birds like them. I need to keep the moles alive, as well, because the foxes like them; and it's fucking hilarious watching them go after the things. They're like little furry lawn darts. :ROFLMAO:

I get a real kick out of the wildlife, so I do want to be very careful not to upset the balance. I could wipe out the mosquitoes, for example, but something must eat them. I just don't know what. I don't know enough about that stuff to make a good decision.

Cheers,

Kennith

Where do you live? Nitrogen is the key here in the southeast and tall fescue. Don't buy scotts. Goto your nursery and buy the good shit. Around here they call it 'grass food'.

Western Colorado.

my problem is the sun, it burns too hot to keep the ground moist enough for the seeds to sprout. I've got my sprinklers running every hour on the hour during the day for 4 minutes at a time to try to keep some moisture around them to germinate...
