I was wondering if you guys had all died of the virus.

I'm hoping retirement is a lot better than what's happening now since I'm tied to a laptop and answering email throughout the day. Sucks because the garden and the garage are so close but can't go do stuff there when I'm on the clock - though it is nice to get up and walk around the yard on break. At the office I really don't get up that much.

I definitely tend to get bored and then frustrated so this has shone a light that when I get to retirement age in another two decades I'll need to have lots of hobbies lined up to keep me busy.

Grass started coming in by the way.

Well one thing your not figuring for is the fact that in 2 decades your going to loose a lot of steam. I look around my property at the shit I've done to it and I know I couldn't do that anymore. I've been in this house 24 years.

See it's all part of the plan. Like I know you don't realize it now, but that little bundle of joy you clean pants for regularly is going to become a teenage boy. He's going to be a real asshole. When he's done with you your going to be glad he's leaving. But right now he's just so cute, right?

Oh a daughter. I've got one of those too. She's also been a teenager. She twisted me better than her brothers did. Fuck I should be in counciling over that kid. But I just drink instead.

You know what they say about daughters. If you have a son you have to worry about one dick in town. If you have a daughter you have to worry about every dick in town.

That's true. My oldest was 18 and dating a 16 year old daughter of a real dickhead cop. That was really fucked up. I don't know how many times I told that kid to keep it in his pants.

That sounds like me, dated a sophomore when I was a senior in high school. Now that I have an almost 16yo daughter I have a completely different perspective and understand why her dad didn't like me. I wouldn't allow that shit, honestly.

You say you wouldn't allow it but really there is nothing you can do. The more you make a fuss about it the more a teenager digs in. Remember, when your a teenager you know everything, adults are idiots. Your teenager wont realize how smart you are till he has a kid who thinks he's a dumbass.

Well my kids are homeschooled and can't drive yet, so I feel I have a little more control than if she went to public school with the guy everyday. But I know what you're saying. In they're opinion I'm and idiot.....until they want something.

Did something happen at school to make you decide to home school them? My daughter cought the autism back when she was 3 yrs old. I fought with the local school tooth and nail because she was being abused by them. Time I got done with them they sent her to a school in Elgin called Summit School. Cost them $60,000 a year in tuition and they had to transport her the hour to elgin. I basically dragged them all the way to the courthouse steps before they caved.
I remember my lawyer telling me that right now the school districts lawyer is explaining to them that they will be bankrupt before the discovery portion of the trial is over. The next day they caved.

Now shes 22 years old and is in a program at SIU that I don't have to pay for. So yeah,I'm not a fan of some of the shit that goes on in public schools.

I haven't been involved in schools (yet) but man everything I'm seeing about them over the years has really soured me on the idea of public schools for my spawn.

So much social engineering bullshit, America sucks, train to the test, etc. Are there even male teachers anymore? Fully half my teachers in my podunk northeast Georgia public school were former Vietnam vets. One with no legs.

I want to raise my kid in the Junius Maltby method, but also with Latin.

Some kids will do just fine in a public school. Some public schools woudn't be good for any kid. I would say if you have access to a good public school use it. Your paying for it like it or not. I have 3 kids, 2 did just fine in public school. Just gotta be paying attention.

Nothing happened at the public schools. In fact, my wife was an English teacher at a public school prior to homeschooling our kids. It just didn't make sense to us. We were paying $1000 a month to send 2 kids to daycare 3 days a week(her Grandma watched them the other two days). Roughly half my wife's check(remember she was a teacher) was going to pay someone else to raise our kids while she raised someone else's. And that's really what it's become. Schools feed your kids two in many cases and don't just teach but indoctrinate. With a 3rd kid on the way and daycare costs about to go up, we jumped. In the first few years she babysat other teachers kids during the school year to bridge the income gap, but summers were totally free. Thankfully I have a job that allows me to support my family on just my income while my wife can teach our kids and no longer babysit others.
I look at how messed up some teachers/schools are and think "if anyone is going to mess up my kids, it's going to be me!". 🤣

My daughter had none in elementary.

Jr high (6-8) has been a 50-50 mix. I think this year she actually had more male than female?

I don't think all public schools are awful. A big part of the experience is what areas the students come from as well.

At the same time, it's a balance. I don't know that going to a place like St Thomas where some kids drive an R8 to school is the best influence either...

I do agree that the concept of teaching for the test is absolutely awful.
