Based on Chris' guidance, this thread is for your serious or humorous or just plain rambling posts on anyone who is now teleworking, or out of work, etc.

Not the place to regurgitate news stories, share stuff your grandma shared on twatter, etc. Its just for personal discussions: is it affecting you? Is it not? etc.

I'll go first. We are on telework status and I'm finding I pay more attention to work than I do in the office. Maybe it's because I have a fear that I'll be judged if I'm not immediately responsive.

As far as life interruption: meh. Restaurants are closed but we rarely eat out. We did miss our normal weekend go to a brewery and have a beer moment, but we did a 5 mile walk with the dogs on trails.

I thought the TP shortage was a bunch of social media garbage until we went for some supplies (we generally keep a stocked fridge and pantry but of course need perishables), nope, all the stores cleared out of toilet tissue.

Our sperm and egg product is still a toddler so school closings have no effect.

We did get the kitchen painted this past Saturday as well. That was nice. Took the place of the drive to a brewery for a beer.

Did just hear that one of my dear friends in Baltimore, who sunk her savings into a floral business a few years ago has now been shut down by the state of Maryland. All the money she has invested in flowers, etc, gone. Doesn't look like she'll be able to re-open because even if she can keep the landlord at bay, it's the investment in stock and having to re-buy that will be out of her reach. Shame, too. It was a small community business in Hampden area of Baltimore. Kind of a local gathering spot, too.

I’m pretty stir crazy so this hasn’t been enjoyable for me. Was on a staggered schedule last week at the office but they made the call for full time WFH today. My work involves a lot of face to face meetings and site visits so it began slowing as the uncertainty ticked up and been really damn slow since middle of last week.

Got some yard work in last week and picked up a new read over the weekend. Did a full wash/clay bar/polish/wax on the LR3 and it’s looking damn nice. Incredible what a few hours of work can do. Of course, it rained all day today...

While I didn’t go, all state and local parks were slammed over the weekend. I anticipate them dropping the hammer on that, which is understandable, but sucks for those who enjoy those activities outside of this pandemic. Hell, they’re even closing some of the FS roads now. Guess I’ll be limited to walking the dog around the block.

Sure I’m not the only one but we’ve been drinking way too much so hope to reign that in this week. Need to step up the quality of meals we’re making at home

Last week they brought each employee into a private meeting and asked us if we had concerns about the whole situation. I told them about my shitty heart and I'm 56 yrs old. Told them my concern is that if I get this my chances are shitty at best. I wish I would have shut the fuck up, they let me finish Tuesday and said go home and wait it out.
Shopping is different now for sure. Finally found toilet paper last night. I go at odd hours and kind of figured out where to find what. Went to a butcher today that has a curb side delivery system going. That works great.
With the stay at home orders here in Illinois and Wisconsin is doing it tomorrow I think I would have been laid off anyway

I'm accustomed to traveling very frequently. Staying in hotels. Taking people out to dinner, etc. My company shut down travel and moved to remote work last week so, yes, stir crazy is setting in. On the good news side, and hopefully, Chris, this is ok, when this is all finally over (and of course at some point it'll be over), it's true that the economy will come roaring back. Figure me on the road: flights, hotels, restaurants, bar tabs, etc, and multiply that by the thousands or tens of thousands of people who do the same thing, plus all those people going back to bars and concerts and restaurants, etc - it's going to be epic. But in the meantime, while fully stocked up, I'm already stir crazy. But then it doesn't take much to make me stir crazy....

Just bought a new car and I don't have to drive anywhere, so I took her for a spin yesterday on some windy mountain roads just for fun. Can't remember the last time I did something like that "just for fun". So I guess that's a small thing, but a big positive.

Only other observation is that both my grown kids are in Denver and they're freaking out right now. One is a student and one works in a "non-essential" business, so lots of concern about what does this mean for them. I'll backstop them, but it's still stressful. They don't want help. They want to work.

My industry has been deemed "essential", so I can move around. But not sure I want to go anywhere until we're over the peak. Feels irresponsible to risk myself or others. Like most of you, I'm well stocked in ATF. But let's just hope this is a couple week thing and we get over the hump quickly!

I've been fighting various lung and other organ issues and rubbish gut infections for quite some time now.

I ain't going nowhere. Fuck that. People are filthy as hell in my area, and there's a college nearby.

Most of what I do nowadays had to stop, unfortunately. Can't open the business I was cranking up until next year now (not sensibly, anyway), can't ship things around, and most of the deals I handle have just stopped.

So... I'm just prepping marketing, editing some films, and most importantly playing Doom Eternal, which is fucking awesome.

Cheers,

Kennith

I've never played any first person or online games, but I did dig out my Atari 2600 and couple boxes of games and have been teaching my wife (born in 1986) how to play. She finds them incredibly difficult and frustrating.

My 14 month old knows how to blow in all the cartridges now.

I'm fortunate that I have a job that can be done remotely without too much disruption, my employer has a secure financial picture for the time being, and my wife already worked from home. We each have separate offices on separate floors of the house so can work independently without bugging each other. I'm becoming fluent in using Microsoft Teams for meetings with my colleagues and Zoom for meetings with everyone else. I've been in self-isolation for about 17 days already.

I like being able to focus on my work without the distractions of an open floor plan office, but I also miss being around my colleagues. I'm lucky that I like the people I work with.

The governor of Washington is holding a press conference in under one hour and I expect him to announce a statewide shelter-in-place order. Being in one of the epicenters of the disease in the US I think Seattleites have a better sense of the gravity of the situation and are doing a better job at social distancing than folks in other parts of the country where it hasn't hit as hard yet.

I stay sane by going for long walks through my neighborhood, bike rides, and running the stairs near my house. The weather is about to take a rainy turn for the next week but I still need to get outside regardless.

Anxiety is definitely something I struggle with. It's hard to make plans for a week, a month, three months from now when you don't even know what new developments will happen tomorrow that will affect your situation. My aunt is an ER nurse in Boston and she just went into quarantine with symptoms. Friends are losing their jobs. I go to the grocery store once a week for fresh food and the vibe is eerie and somber.

Doing the video happy hour with friends is becoming a necessity for social interaction.

I look at the Johns Hopkins covid-19 live tracker map every morning when I wake up and every evening. The numbers aren't encouraging. This last weekend I distracted myself by knocking out a bunch of routine maintenance tasks on my Disco. It feels good to accomplish something tangible.

Same ol same ol, I am enjoying the lack of traffic.

I am fine until they close the local State Park and I cant ride my bike.

I hope things will bounce back in time for summer....

Good god Chris. I understand somewhat the gloom and doom not being welcome. That said the insensitivity of that last post is OK? My co-worker's wife got laid off and they are worried that if this drags on they can't pay the bills/might lose the house. And this guy is worried about his bike ride? I'd say that's as bad a look for the forum as the bickering.

I can do some stuff at home, we have moved to Zoom meetings for most everything. I straddle the IT and instruction sides for our schools so we are trying to figure out how to meet the state expectations, student needs and such. Last week I spent the morning helping to package about 1200 meals to be distributed, today we are looking at back inventory of devices to see if there will be issues with student Chromebook repairs, getting over 1000 staff up to speed on using VPN.

I can't stand those video conferencing programs. The second it's called for, I'm like a teacher trying to use a VCR.

The easiest one to bumble through was Cisco's old system, but they changed it.

Cheers,

Kennith

well crazy thing happened. People flooded the dispensary and liqueur stores and the mayor is now allowing them to stay open
