Frankly, while health care professionals still can’t get the masks needed to do their jobs, I find it publicly irresponsible that this is even being discussed by our leaders. However, I guess since the masks are practically unobtainable and already hoarded by some when you could still find them, there are none to be taken from health care providers. i have seasonal allergies that just kicked in this week. I occasionally sneeze and cough. It does make sense for someone like me to wear a mask in case I am also an unknown carrier. That being said, I think the current thoughts on public mask usage are more about reopening the economy, which is going to have to happen and before the virus is contained completely. At our fire station we are using masks we found in storage from when H1N1 was a threat. They ”expired” in 2011. It is a head scratcher that we put so much preparation into that, months of preparing, but none for this. We even did a mock drill at the high school for vaccinating the public if it became possible. We did just Monday get 40 sets of new PPE. It is being very carefully rationed by our county EOC. We are an emergency service provider. We had to buy hand sanitizer from a local brewery that voluntarily stopped making beer to make hand sanitizer.

Agreed.

Mask/respirator usage by the general public is not really beneficial (general masks don’t catch the aerosols, and N95 respirators aren’t needed unless in close proximity). And the people who really need them are having a hard time getting them already.

Good news on the old N95s. They’ll still work (see below). My Dept has ~800 and they’re old (~5-6 years). The foam on the nose is a bit degraded though - leaves a mustache across the bridge of your nose.

Once the hospital stockpiles are abundant, mask up everyone. It can’t hurt. But, until then... everything else.

So before this thread also gets locked down, I'm going to gently push it back in the direction of what you're doing during your seclusion or quarantine, or if you're essential, or how your kids are managing or if you're drinking too much, exercising too little, reading books, obsessing over social media posts, etc....

So back to seclusion stories.

A friend of mine just had a baby. He was just came off maternity leave on monday. She is an ICU nurse. 17 of their 19 ICU patients are COVID. So in order to work, she is has to come home and sleep in basement and not see her children or husband.

Got my gloves on and went to Harris teeter for a few things including beer. Drinking a lot more but also walking 4 miles plus a day. Everyone is out here, it’s great to see. Being outside with nature is really helping me deal.

We are hunkered down enjoying the sunshine. I've got a 7 gallon bucket of "pre hand sanitizer" in the works and I'm getting some loads worked up for the new rifle. 20200330_222233.jpg20200312_143722.jpg

I think the mask keeps an infected person from infecting people around them. Helps anyway. So once the shortages are filled they might tell us to wear them.

I think this one is pretty easy to understand. It seems to come down to the difference between catching an... Uhh... "Expulsion event" in a concave filter attached directly to the exhaust outlet, or expecting any filter with a loose seal to capture particles on the intake side.

Unless you're driving through that Australian dust, it's not accomplishing much at all.

Cheers,

Kennith

Agreed, my bad. Spent all day Sunday pulling crappy interior parts from the new to me D1 purchased from a forum and swapping in much nicer used parts purchased from another forum member. My wife, still many states away, called last night crying totally depressed over many things related to this mess. So, after we talked for a good while, I asked to put my 9 year old son the phone. We talked about how he could help mom get through this. Wife called this morning in a much better state of mind telling me about the incredible uplifting things my son said to her after our phone call. Proud daddy here!

That's awesome.

I miss Disco wrenching so I've been keeping my eye out for one locally and cheap. I may even consider cutting the entire top off of it since I really only want it to bomb gravel roads, camp, and I live in a desert. I'm guessing it will affect the structure....anyone know or seen one?

I have been working on my old 2 stroke dirt bikes and got my 89 RM250 running yesterday, now have to sit here at the lap top until 3:30 before I can ride it.

About the small towns and dirty looks...

I lived in a small town south of here for about 20 years. I still from time to time check the online edition of the local newspaper. Yesterday there was a open letter from the county sheriff and the chiefs of police of three of the larger towns in the county. Basically it said "please quit calling 911 because your neighbors went to Wal-Mart".
