my problem is the sun, it burns too hot to keep the ground moist enough for the seeds to sprout. I've got my sprinklers running every hour on the hour during the day for 4 minutes at a time to try to keep some moisture around them to germinate...
I'm sure sprinklers are like assholes/opinions ........... my dry climate approach has been to water much longer and then long but less often once established. Drive the roots deep and do it in the morning (6ish) so that it will dry out just enough by night time to prevent issues with fungus.

In the golf industry, huh? We can all take a few pointers from one of the all-time greatest authorities on lawn care:

iu

I've never heard that one before, LOL. But hey, who doesn't love Carl and Caddyshack. That said there are people in this industry who would love to hunt you down and stick a weedeater up your ass for posting that. He is to some golf course superintendents what Hilter is to the Jews.

The first thing is a soil test to see where you stand pH and nutrient wise, and if you want to take it next level collect your clippings and have them tested to see what nutrients are making it into the plant. Under certain conditions they can become bound up in the soil. Nitrogen is important but the quality and type is equally important. Most of the time you want a good slow release product to give extended feeding without a flush of growth. Also keep in mind to much N can promote certain diseases (brown patch) as can to little (dollor spot).

That's what I do for the established areas, but for this new bare area that I've seeded they need to stay just moist enough to germinate. Once they sprout I can extend the watering to longer periods, it's the keeping it moist without drying out that's proving to be a pain in the ass.

On the subject of stuff to do during lockdown.... not sure if there are any classical music aficionados out there, but one of the big PIAs is that most music apps don't handle classical very well given the variables of period, composer, conductor, orchestra, soloist, etc. Well, I just discovered the Idagio app. If you are a classical music lover, you need this app. It'll be a positive influence in your life, trust me. So I've spent hours this week recreating my music library and playlists in Idagio, and adding plenty more along the way. This app is simply amazing for classical music. You'll thank me. And I'll be happy for you.

Don't know. With the exception of film scores, I’ve never been a big fan of contemporary classical. (Though I did see the premier of Rose of Senora and thought it was fantastic.)

It's a different taste for sure. Hans Zimmer is nothing short of spectacular - - if you're into that.

Yes, definitely like Zimmer. Also George S Clinton, John Williams, Trevor Jones... that sort of thing. I just don't like the experimental, dissonant type of thing that seems so popular among musicians today.

Also George S Clinton

I was perplexed by this inclusion...did he make funky classical music as some kind of passion project? (I gotta hear that o_O)

I didn't realize there are 2 George Clinton's.

That one letter makes a huge difference in your aural input eh? 😄

I hung two hummingbird feeders yesterday and they're already being visited.

Still trying to get grass to grow.

I am south of denver and had humming birds for 3 weeks. i get about 12 bluebirds at a time on one meal worm brick. They stand on each others backs often. They are my favorite to watch right now. Roufous humming birds ar the best, but wont be here for a while. Their mating displays are nuts, little dive bombers/kamakazis.

Dozens of finch, woodpeckers(downy/hairy), nut hatches, groesebeak, toway, flicker, stellar//grey/scrub/blue jay. Then we get predators like redtail, sharpshin, swaison, kestrel, barn/horned owls. They hang in the trees and hit the birds on the ground. If we get any doves or pigeons, they get toasted quick.

We had mange take out all the fox recently. No coyote right now either so we can have a turkeys come through that will devistate my perennial garden in minutes, so we have the dog chase them out. We regularly see 50-100 turkeys at a time.

We get white tail and mule deer, but have dog chase them too. If I forget the bird feeders or accidentally leave out garbage we will get black bear. My dog goes freaking crazy for the bear. She will smell them 100 ft from the house with all the windows shut.

Trails 15 minutes from house, I see antelope, elk, lions. We also get C130, F18, F16, CH47, UH60 practicing low flight right over our house reqularly. Thunderbirds make an appearance at least once a year for AFA graduation. I do really love where I live.

I have used this mix:

And this fescue:

I cannot get thier buffalo grass to take. It gets -20 to 100 here. I rake, mix seed with compost spread, then another 1/2" compost with some small mulch. I water a mega ton, perhaps 30 minutes 4x per day until I see grass, then 2x. After the first year, it requires no watering.

2 of the watering are before sunrise, after sunset, then two during day.

watering just a few minutes like you are would not work here. it would just dry up instantly. my soil is sand/quartz.

Our Lord Governor just caved into public pressure and told me I can get my haircut this Friday. Next Monday I can go to a restaurant. He is so good to me.
