exhaust smell is probably caused by someone hooking up zirconia o2 sensors for a d2. it must be drinking fuel
They are a Generic Bosch 3 wire narrow band. It isnt throwing any codes. Idle sucks with the stock injectors and wouldnt run with newer Bosch style. This engine only has 1500 miles on it and running a wedge shop cam.

He's still on FB, haven't seen him here in ages. And I think he's still buying.

$400 is enough to buy you a cheap aftermarket Y-pipe on ebay. If you want something like Borla or Magnaflow, $400 won't get you as far.
A non-CARB Y-pipe doesn't fly in California. I'd have gladly paid $400 for a pair of factory cats a year ago when my D1 was hacked.

14CUX and GEMS use titania sensors - I don't think Bosch made them, only NTK. If you have a zirconia sensor instead of titania, the engine would run ridiculously rich yet not likely to throw any codes (exactly what robertf said).

Vauxhall also used a Siemens ECU during the Nineties, and again for reasons of high performance a Titanium sensor was specified. NGK are the OE manufacturer of all these items because their laboratories developed them, therefore Bosch do not produce a Titanium sensor.

Some Lucas-ECU equipped vehicles also use a Titania sensor, for example V8 Land Rovers, Range Rovers and TVR's.,

It runs rich. Which could explain it wouldnt run with the newer style Bosch injectors. Even with the DUI dizzy it ran terrible. Assuming the only solution is to reweld the bungs for the stock o2s or get a different Y pipe.

The D1 I have been getting ready for the road has what appear to be newer O2 sensors. It also has stinkier (smells of running rich) than I would expect exhaust. I haven’t driven it enough to assess fuel economy but I wonder if it has the wrong O2 sensors in it. It also can be hard to start when hot. (perhaps too rich?) Cold it fires right up. Sometimes when hot it takes a fair bit of cranking, but it does start every time and always runs smooth.

I have one rattling cat but I believe it is still doing it’s job.

Anyone have link to a listing for the correct O2 sensors?

Hard hit start is frequently leaking fuel injectors

Fuel pressure when running and 15/30 minutes after shit down?

What’s the fuel trim doing on this truck? Does one bank goes full lean and the other goes full rich as soon as closed loop starts?
It is good on both sides. Also, as I have been driving it, now about 400 miles, the hot starts have significantly improved and the exhaust smell has been a lot better as well. I didn’t notice it being smelly at all the last couple days.

One thing of note is that before I replaced the radiator I was getting a code for temperature out of range as soon as I would drive it up a long grade. It was getting up to just above 210 degrees and the code would hit. New radiator stopped that. However, one drive earlier this week before the engine was fully warmed up, I got that code again. I drive at idle about 2 miles downhill to get to our front gate. It popped the code when I stopped to open the gate. I cleared it and it didn’t come back on the 10 mile drive to my son’s school with a 3000 ft elevation gain.. I have driven it since then and it hasn’t come back. However, I am going to change the sensor.

With recent good behavior, it (the red one) has now been promoted from the shop to my driveway and it is taking some drive time from gold one. This will allow me to finally remove the headliner in the gold one(get it recovered) and address the leaky sunroof.3AE0DF0E-1620-467B-B5DD-D21F20562B28.jpeg

where did you get that cover?
It’s a really cheap one. I picked it up at a local bargain grocery store years ago that marked them way down to get rid of them. I picked up several of them. They were something like $5 each. I planned to use them as dust covers only but I have been pleasantly surprised how long they have held up in the sun while also preventing those leaky sunroofs from causing problems.

Following up, I received three quotes.

$320 - I pay shipping
$435 - I pay shipping
$535 - shipping paid by buyer (RRCATS.COM)

Sending them off to the high quote today. It pays to shop around.

Replacement cats/y-pipe including tax $431, installed and I immediately noticed improved /smoother running. My wife even noticed.
