What are the options for replacing the door weather film. That shit is nasty to deal with. Is it really necessary? Is a dynamat type product a good substitute? Other options?

I think you want to seal it with something, but it probably doesn't make a big difference what you use.

But....regarding the door "film", I recently found an item that works perfectly!
This sticks to metal on its own, easily removes without residue, conforms to dips, bolts, etc without tearing and seals the dust out and also insulates. It is very similar to factory stuff. Sealing the dust and insulating were the biggest difference I noticed. Highly recommended!!!

Just buy some drop cloths and double sided tape. Cut to size. You can get whichever thickness floats your boat. Cheap, effective, and easy.
I used extra thick shower curtain. You know , the one with the map of the world on it. It seemed appropriate. Plus it might help if I ever get lost. Lol Your local body shop supply place sells the sticky thin tar like strips for not much money. That stuff isn’t much fun to deal with when you have to get back in your door though.
When I need access behind the film, I cut it with a razor knife, then tape it back together with Tuck tape. That has worked well. If I need access again, I cut the same line.
