D1 gearing

I am looking for some advice. I have a 95 D1 with 200tdi and an LT77 Transmission with a 1.2 transfer gearbox, running 33" tires. I am going to install Ashcroft lockers front and rear, and Am looking for suggestions on gearing. This is not my primary driver but I use it for long trips and camping. Any help would be appreciated.

Best formula I have seen is tire size you want to run or are running, divided by stock size, take that number and multiply by stock gear ratio.
33/29=1.13X3.54=4.02 So you can choose 4.10. 4.11 4.12 what ever a vendor offers in that range. I think most with 33s on that vehicle would say that is the sweet spot. When I get a few other things sorted, that's what i am going to. Running 32s now, going to 33s and doing gears. I might finally be done with mods at that point.

Thanks guys. I have used the Ashcroft calculator and am thinking that the 4.12's would be the way to go. I like to gather all the wisdom I can before dropping that kind of cash.

Alternatively, you can score a 110 LT230 with 1.4:1 high range ratio. It won't help you in low range, but it will make you a lot happier on pavement.

The "right way" of doing it is to regear the axles; but it has a downside - if you break stock R&P, the replacement is often in the nearest junkyard. If you have 3.73 or 4.11, then you'll be camping for a while.

4.10 worked great with my 33's. The 35's I have could use more but it still does ok on the hwy and fine off road.
I have 4:11s with 34s. They worked pretty well. Just got some 35's and now wished that I had gone with 4:37's. Honestly I had originally requested 4:37s knowing I was moving to 35's but Lucky8 said they shipped the wrong gears and I would have to wait several more weeks to get the right ones. I just screw it and went with 4:11's

I ran 4.12 with my 315/75/16's. Used the Ashcroft calculator and that setup was closer to stock numbers than the 265/75/16's I was running on 3.54(stock) gears.

4.10s and 35s works great for me with a 4.6. I once broke a diff in colorado (rovota conversion) and threw a junkyard 4.27 in there thinking it was 4.10. After quickly realizing the mismatch on pavement pulled the front driveshaft and drove home to Texas in 2wd and it felt like the engine was screaming

Not sure if any of that translates to a 200tdi, but being overgeared sucks
