I can't accurately tell because if I'm running my 32" street tires w/ 4.11 gears I average 15 mpg, but as you know my odo/speedo are way off now. when I run my 33+ MT tires I average about 13. Speedo still isn't right. How about this... I have been able to get 320 4.11/32 inch tire miles out of a tank of gas and about 270 4.11 33 inch tire miles.

What was the question again?

Never really bothered to figure it out and would rather not know. At least that way I can convince myself that it is not that bad :D

Inserting head back in sand now :smilelol:

i'm just looking for patterns. if someone is getting huge mileage, i'd like to know why! if someone is well below the bell curve, they might start looking to resolve a possible unknown issue.

i like knowledge!

I'm with Dave. At 219K miles, I know that my camshaft has more in common with a pushrod than a camshaft and I'm certain that's mainly what's responsible for my horribly poor fuel economy.

It's the cross we bear as Rover owners.

Has a bit of wear on it eh? :D

Since July, 2005, I have driven 18,000 miles, averaging 13.4 mpg combined hwy/city/offroad, with the majority of miles being the city category.

The top 10 reasons we keep them even though the mileage does suck:

10. It's paid for.

9. It's not unusual to have a Disco with high miles.

8. It's big enough to haul most of your tools and parts with you on the trail to keep it running (even if you do have to leave the wife and kids).

7. What owners of other makes can get an enthusiastic group together to help with repairs or upgrades?

6. Help is only a few keystrokes away (What other website can you search and get such good help or be chastised for not searching threads prior to asking questions that have been flogged to death?).

5. What D1 owner here doesn't have big plans for their vehicle?

4. It's more fun to drive than anything else in it's price range.

3. How many other vehicles are considerate enough to let you know they are out of fluids by not dirtying up your driveway any longer?

2. What other automaker uses such shitty seals on a steering box?

And the No. 1 reason to own a Discovery Series I with poor fuel economy is:

1. It's paid for!

Did I mention that it's paid for?

My RRC runs 35+ mpg and it's stock except for the roof rack, front RTE bumper with winch, rear RTE bumper, 265/75R16's, 3" springs, rear detroit, etc.

Another reason RRC is better than D1...

On my 95 DI I kept track of it for over 26,170 miles and I averaged 13.19 mpg combined city/highway/offroad. The high was 19.1 mpg and low was 4.4 mpg. That was a mixture of both with stock tires and 31's and all stock gearing.

Now with 35X12.5R15 MTR's and 4.56 gears I am averageing between 10-12 mpg after correcting for the speedo error. I stopped filling in the log though as it is not really going to matter at this point what it gets. I drive it to wheel and for fun and the mileage has no affect on if I drive it or not.
