Hello all, for anyone who may have done this, can a d2 4.6 engine be pulled without removing the heads, coil or valve covers? Or in other words can the four top bolts be accessed without taking everything off. Thanks in advance for input.

Yeah, the coil should be easy enough to remove once you remove the motor mounts and let the engine down. I have to rip this motor out quick. What about leaving the vicious fan on too? Thanks for the quick reply.

well sure you can bang one out that way.... why not pull the entire drivetrain instead? engine/trans and tcase can come out all at one time as quickly as removing just the engine. I remove all 3 all the time.

Sounds like it would be easier, but I don't have any experience with drive train removal. Will it all pull out with radiator still in? Besides all I want is the engine.

Will, I have a donor D1 that I'm looking to pull the engine/Trans/TC from.
What's your technique for pulling as one unit?

Chris it is going to be a real pain no matter what way you approach it. However if you start cutting corners like not pulling fans and removing coil packs you are going to add another level of pain. Take the easy stuff off. The Fan should be removed. (it takes under a minute)..the engine can tilt better without it in there and give you a heck of a lot more room to pull. If you leave the Fan on be prepared to jam yourself against the Radiator....
