Anyone ever seen something like this?

The pump seems to be leaking from one of these triangle quadrants. C8BE2D03-671A-459D-9D10-296410060D1D.jpeg

Looks like the rubber fuel pump to tank seal is squeezing itself out. Dry up the fuel around the pump then remove pump and see what the seal looks like. Maybe just a seal?

Sorry spoke to soon didn’t see full picture maybe dry up the fuel leak and start it up and see where the leak is if you have someone to start it up while you observe is.

Looking closer at the pic appears someone has tried to seal the leak with blue silicone? The quadrant you describe is the main fuel feed line inlet to the fuel pump. I looked at other pics of this style of pump and I don’t see that blue silicone anywhere. Maybe time to replace it.

I’d say the bad seal is the correct answer. If it’s not sealing, it will overflow every time you fill up and that’s why it’s full of dirt and standing gas in areas.

Decided to pull and replace the pump. This is my son’s truck and it’s his sole source of transportation when he’s away at school. Just seems like a odd spot to develop a crack inside one of those triangle quadrants.

Was that the source of the leak or the seal? That would be odd…. Didn’t think there is any blue silicone, that’s just what the gas and dirt looks like but maybe I’m wrong.

The top right quadrant would fill and overflow to the other quadrants and eventually overflow and pool to the outside of the pump securing ring. We could soak up the fuel and then watch it slowly fill up again. It would leak as long as there was pressure in the tank. Overnight the pressure would dissipate and not fill again. Pump and new seal are on order, guess we’ll see our guessing is right. Still just seems odd that the plastic quadrant would spring a leak but I/we may be missing something.

Plastic can crack over time with heat and cold. It’s a good thing you found the fuel leak, safety first and the D2 will run better, all sealed up, definitely better fuel pressure and better start ups.

This damn retaining ring is a bitch, it’s not budging a bit yet. Hitting it with PB Blaster and tapping it every hour with a punch. Not sure yet how hard I can whack this thing.

They can be on there pretty tight. I usually use a large flathead screwdriver and a 3lb hammer. It will survive some pretty good hits. Just hit a few different places going around. It will eventually start to move.

Loosen the lock ring and then tighten it back and forth motion or if you have a large pair of channel lock pliers will help loosen as well.

All in. Had to hit it with some PB and let it sit for a couple hours but it eventually started to wiggle. It’s purr’n again. Thanks guys.
