I am sure people said this about series trucks when they were plentiful. If you love a DII it makes sense long term.

fwiw the replacement rear chassis from RN to fix the part that rusts on a D2 is around $800 and the job is no fun.

60 hours .... especially if you are dealing with a rusty one to remove stuff from. Affordable? I am working on a package deal right now.... trying to hammer out some final numbers...
Yeah, that's how many hours I thought it would take…Out here, shop rates run 85 to 125 a hour and your crazy to try this in your driveway or home garage (unless you have a 2 post lift). It's not like a defender where you can strip it down to the frame with a crescent wrench and leatherman...
I would be interested in Will's package deal... I'll be keeping my D2 forever. One day these trucks will be rare! One day... maybe... OK maybe not...
Its going to be a reduced rate based on body shop rate/mechanical rate... I will have more details in the next week.
Wow it blows my mind that anyone would put that much effort for no return into a vehicle that the newest one is now over 14 years old, can be had all day long down here for sub $2500, and generally has such a niche following that every one knows that they have terrible resale value.

I also see where this makes a lot of sense to a guy that has a D2 with a 800.00 bumper, 1000.00 rack, 700.00 sliders, 300.00 in skids, 800.00 winch, 2500 in axle/locker upgrades and so on and so on...
The trucks are done... The owner may not be and wants to keep his rig around as long as he can.
I cant tell you how often non Rover owners tell me they don't like the new stuff.... They liked the look of the Classics and Discos.

The L322s were attractive and the last model by Rover to be so in my eyes. The new Sports, full size, Evoques and Discovery are sad examples of the marque. The Sport is like a post op tranny - it has no idea what it wants to be - an SUV, a sports car? And not very good at being either.
I feel like reviving the '88 Classic sitting behind the shop down at our VA course. It's in sad shape, but still better looking than any new Range Rover.

Would love to see more Classics staying around. I have a 95 I am finishing up now I purchased from Cali in order to avoid the rust.
I did the rear frame repair on one for a local Dr. Truck had failed Virginia safety inspection due to frame rust Told him about Will and suggested he simply sell the truck to Will instead of invest in the repair as the cost would exceed the value of the truck ( I didn't want to do the job). He thought about it and insisted on proceeding. Job cost him about what Will is asking for a galv chassis. You'd be surprised how many people who could drive anything, choose to drive old rovers.
next time you are on this side of the world take a stroll through university park. A beat to crap coil sprung rover is not out of place.
