D2 - HDC green light flashing in low range???

Hi all – I have an 01 build series II Disco Man V8. I noticed the other day that the HDC light kept flashing green despite sticking her in low range – it didn’t seem to know that it was in low range. I have never had this before and so went off road like that and in addition to hill decent light chiming away and not activating the brakes, the traction control was sluggish. Normally in low range the program was much more aggressive (as per the manual or RAVE cant remember which) and in practice it was very aggressive in low range off road. So it seems that the computer is not aware that the transfer case is in low. Tried going in and out about 20 times but no change. Got underneath and pulled the clips apart and sprayed the connectors in the wires for the low range switch- with contact cleaner – stuck them back together and it worked fine then. 2 days later, same problem. So I wonder what it is and whether it’s the switch itself ($208). Traction control still works but nowhere near as well.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. This has lead me to price a good place doing a CDL install (front output housing), lever, and getting this problem fixed at the same time ($2,000 all up including shifter) and fixing the central shaft oil leak at the same time. Having said that I don’t want to spend the dosh, so if I can fix the low range identification problem that would be sweet.

Cheers and thanks
