One is ground, one is constant power, and one is ignition switch power if I remember correctly. I did this a year ago myself, but I didn't write down the wiring colors as it was pretty quick/easy.

In The Manuals

The electrical manuals are in Rave download. Should take a short time to get detailed information information sought as I just did to keep in practice.

If you know how to search a PDF document for "mirror" just open the appropriate manuals and it's easy to find info.

Wiring diagrams show connector & pin numbers to go by showing which is gnd, pwr and control. Searching manuals for connector #s you will find illustrations of the connector pinout. D1 connector is C334 as indicated on diagrams and D2 is C0698. D1 info in one manual versus two for D2.

My 97 D1 had one of those lovely leaking mirrors, I had it replaced for free 3 times, and they were complete trash. The map lights were nice, but with an overhead light right there they seem kinda overkill to me. When I bought my 98 D1 at the beginning of last year it had the same rearview mirror as my 97 and it was just about to leak out everywhere... I grabbed a D2 model without homelink, and had it installed quickly after I used a meter to figure out 12v constant, ground, and switched power for the compass.

I replaced mirrors on both D1s, one on the 95 LWB, the 95 SWB is waiting for a replacement. The first D1 replacement mirror came free from Magna Donnelly - and I asked for and received mirror with map lights. Very nice.
These mirrors are POS.
That said - ex-our 2001 XC70 also had the same issue. Ordered the replacement also from Magna Donnelly, for something like $60 or so.

Know this is a bit old but I successfully put a D2 rear-view in my '97 D1.
Homelink, dimming, and compass all work. Got the D2 mirror off eBay and by chance it had the truck side connector with about 6" of wire with it. I cut the D1's wires just back of the truck side connector. Little solder and heat shrink work and all was well.
Here is a picture of how the wires mated up.

D2 mirror d1 truck

blk blk - connector - blk

grn/brn grey-connector-grn/brn

grn/white white-connector-grn/orange

I’ve got a D2 mirror I just wired up and it’s not firing up. Auto dimmer doesn’t work nor does the compass come on.

I wired from D2 mirror to D1 truck:
Black to black
Green/brown to gray
Green/white to white

Nothing. I even tried switching the gray and white connections and still nothing. Am I missing something?

Hmmm, I haven’t done anything to disconnect so I would assume yes.
