Hoping you guys can help me diagnose. I have and 04 D2.

I replaced the following parts (mostly preventative but truck was hitting 234* in the desert):
New radiator: http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/PCC000710
New fan/clutch: http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/PGG000080
New t-stat: http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/PEL500110
Coolant: Using Peak global lifetime instead of the Dex
New odyssey battery

Immediately the truck ran about 10* warmer (via scan gauge) after replacing the above. I've done the following so far to try and fix the problem:
Complete coolant flush to ensure no blockage and air in the system
Replaced T-stat (AB sent me another one)

None of the above has helped. Scanguage around town is reading 209*-216* consistently under normal driving.

The original t-stat I had on prior to replacing everything was the 180* OE from LR (blk or grey one). Could that be the issue? IS the Motorad one crap?

Next thing I'm thinking is that there might be a problem with the new radiator? This seems unlikely.

Thanks for any help or guidance.

Sounds like you've taken a good approach. The only other major component in the cooling system that you haven't touched is the water pump. Agree that new radiator is unlikely to be the culprit. A few years ago when I swapped in an aftermarket aluminum model on my last truck it worked well to keep the coolant at a comfortable temperature.

Thanks. What would the signs be of a water pump starting to fail?
Did you go custom radiator?

It's supposed to be the "warmer weather one" but curious if it's just not as "good" as the other.

I specifically had one of their reps tell me that the warmer weather Tstat is not 180*.
I went with the Land Rover original grey one from RN

Whats your idle temp?

I'm in in a similar boat. Did a full engine rebuild, and replaced all cooling components except for the heater core. Running about 10 degrees hotter all around (210 idle, 200 at speed). AND I'm now running the grey 180 tstat, and before I wasn't. Hrmmm.

At idle/stop light I'm around 215* around 206-210* at speed.

Not going to hurt anything with those temps. I don't know how people are achieving sub 200 at idle without an inline tstat. I'd like to know.

225+ is when things start to get hairy. For your case, I would swap the Motorad with a genuine grey 180 and report back... many say the Motorad is junk.

I had an issue recently where my truck was running 200* and above all the time when previously it was running cooler. My overflow tank kept cracking up front too. I honestly don't know what the problem was as my mechanic said he tried changing the Tstat several times as well as other parts like radiator, temp sensor, etc. I was running the 180* grey genuine one previously and I don't think he was using the same.

Somehow it's running the lower temps again. I had him put my old 180* grey tstat back in. Maybe it was just stuck partially open before? Who knows...

Anyway, I would only use the Genuine Grey 180* tstat if I were you. Also, check the temp sensor and the overflow tank/cap to make sure they're ok too.

My temps are 188*-197*.

Thanks. I just ordered the grey t-stat and will report back with info.

Make sure it has been bled well.

And fwiw I used to see the aftermarket radiators leak pretty quick from the end tank seals. No clue on cooling capacity though.

Can you hear the fan roaring at start up for a few seconds and when the temps start to climb? If it's really working it should sound like an air plane.
I've had bad luck with aftermarket fan clutches like eurospare or britpart. I'd put your old fan on and see what that does.

The grey T-stat has lowered the temps to around 197-204 under normal driving. It did spike to 215 on the highway (80 degrees out) going up a grade. But the truck seems to go back down to lower temps fairly quickly.

Heading to Lake Arrowhead this monday for a little run. We'll see how she does then.

I just put a OEM grey in yesterday and am getting the same temps - was @ 204-212 with the motorad 180, now 194-204. hopefully this one doesn't stick after 100 miles like my last oem grey did

Drove the truck a bit more today and it has some strange spikes. I'm wondering if the new fan/clutch combo is faulty. Didn't have that much resistance when the motor was warm...
