D2 - stumble idle when cold - how often should plugs and leads be done?

Hi all. 70,000 miles on a 4.0 01, D2 Manual. I have replaced the MAF with a factory one about 10,000 miles ago, and it was running nicely until recently - it has started stumbling at idle when cold - rough running, and also hunting revs at idle like my 95 D1. I cleaned the stepper motor a while back. Its been running well until the other day...could it be leads and plugs. Both are now 35,000 miles old having been replaced under warranty at that point. I run LPG most of the time (propane/butane mix) which I think might be a little hard on the original spec Champion double platinums - hot combustion and dry.

Cheers

PS. I tend towards original spec with this truck because I have heard that problems can develop with different plugs and leads...whereas the 95 has the biggest of everything spark wise that I can stuff into her;)

...silly me:) When I pulled the MAF connector plug the other day and cleaned the terminals with contact cleaner, I didnt push it back far enough and the MAF was no connected...no wonder it was hunting at idle!

Pushed connector back properly and perfect idle...very nice.

My question about plugs and leads though stands in terms of mileage. I suspect I should be getting about 60,000 - 70,000 miles out of the leads and 40-60k miles out of the double platinum plugs?

Cheers

mine were toast at 30k.. crumbling into bits.. most on this board will lead you to Champion plugs.. I still have OEM in there now... not sure what they are.

I replaced my plugs with Champions 318 (the long number... can't remember what it is) and they were about .063" to .125" longer on the threads than the originals. Should I have used the Champions 322 instead? I didn't change the wires yet as I didn't have the time. When I checked under the hood with the engine running in the dark I didn't see a light show. How critical are new wires? The reason for my long worded questions are I have lost about 1 mpg since I have replace the plugs. I also put on new tires and had attributed the mpg loss to that or is it from the new plugs? Any thoughts?
