D90 front brake noise, hardware question

Been chasing a squeak for what seems like forever now. Upgraded to the 90 setup w/vented discs. Issue is the brake are chirping like they are are making a tiny bit of contact with the rotor, noise goes away immediately when pressing the brakes. Wheel bearings are fine.

I have the correct length pins, but are the spring lengths different for the D1 and D90? Rovers north lists the same hardware kit for the D90 and D1, which is what I have. The D90 page lists these pads clips which I do not have, I thought those were a rear-only thing. The pads are definitely riding up and over the rotor (I already had them out and chamfered them a bit) but the noise came back immediately. So it seems maybe those clips are what I need?

I know with the vented rotors that you should have longer springs that came with the longer pins. You might try stretching your springs and see if it helps. I haven't ever heard of the clips for the front. How would the clips work? My pads have the pin running through the metal on the pad so there would be no where for the clip to contact the metal on the pad ( allowing the pad to slide below the clip ) other wise you would have to install the clip under the retaining pin and spring and let it ride on the friction material ( this in my mind would at some point prevent the pads from contacting the rotor properly.

I have done this brake upgrade to my truck and also notice a lot of rattle sound coming from the brakes. I will be interested to see what others have to say.

There are D90s with the same brake setup as a D1, but that's not a NAS D90. Different kits.

Do you ever get a click type noise when you apply the brakes? The pins may have wallowed out the holes in the caliper allowing the pad to move excessively.

So basically, you're saying buy the NAS 90 kit because it has longer springs? That's my question. I bought a kit from you a year or so ago that came with new pins and springs bc the OEM springs were rusted away, at that time it fixed the noise (which is pretty much the same issue I have now) on the stock D1 calipers. The pins were extra long though, so I re-used that kit on the D90 calipers and pads since they fit. I assume I just got/ordered the longer pins by accident or something.

Yea, thats what I was thinking. It doesn't make sense to use both. I have no rattle, I know on defender source pretty much all the complaints are about rattling but mine is a constant squeak like I'm riding the wear indicator.

None. When I hit the brakes the noise is completely gone.

Oh no, I wasn't saying buy the other kit, I was just noting that they use different kits. Whether that's the cause of your noise, I'm not sure.

Ah ok. I checked my orders and I bought this one a while ago, so the solid disc/D1 one. That may be it then. I think the pins I got came with the pads or something... wasn't from you guys.

Both FishEH and I have experienced the same. Mine still persists but less consistent. A small touch of the breaks ends the squeak/squeal. Mine only happens above ~ 50 mph. Frustrating for sure.

My noise was from the rear brakes. Its almost 100% gone now. I only very rarely hear it at very low speeds after a lot of stop/go traffic.

I haven't check the rears but I'm almost positive its from the front brakes. I can manipulate the sounds by moving the steering wheel ever so slightly.

FWIW - I had a front brake squeak (not very loud, but noticeable especially while driving next to a wall) with 110 front brake calipers for about 10kmi after I installed them. I am not even entirely sure if it's gone or I just stopped paying attention to it.
Same exact symptoms as described here.

I did pretty much all that was mentioned in this thread, including adjusting the wheel bearings - nothing seemed to help it, so I just shrugged it off.

Sounds like your wheel bearings aren't tight enough.

They are.

I'm just about there. It's pretty annoying. I'll probably order a new RN kit and toss it in and go from there.

I don't remember which brake pads I have - in the past, the best luck I had with Ferodo pads, even if they never looked particularly sexy.

update:

Blew an inner swivel seal (I think?) so I had the whole driver's side apart yesterday. Everything is tightened to spec, greased, etc. Still squeaks. Pretty sure it's the pads, as there was pad material built up on the outside edge of the rotor. I'm just gonna keep the radio turned up.

Figured I would post a little update here. So these axles now live on my Defender and the front brake squeak still exists! I think I will try new pads and pins/springs
