Dead Infotainment Unit

Sat for a month with battery disconnected. Reconnected battery to go for a drive and found that the infotainment showed zero signs of life. GAP also confirmed no communication from the unit. Driver side seatbelt was wet, but not sure if related. All fuses checked out. Everything else functions fine.

Any suggestions on where to start?

All the brains for that are inside the center console, in the "screen." Do you care about any of the OE functions? There's a kit to swap out for an aftermarket double DIN unit.

I've looked at the aftermarket options, but I'd like to keep the factory unit. I'm thinking it was either a result of the battery being reconnected suddenly or water ingress. It was parked with the front facing down a slight incline, so any water would have migrated forward. I know water can pool around the wires along the sills and this caused issues on LR3s, but I'm not sure about LR4s. Most of the LR4 infotainment issues I've seen in web research refer to partially functioning units, not completely dead.

It's black with no signs of life. Buttons do nothing. I'll get the exact code, but it was essentially a code for no communication from the unit.

oh shit, I just posted an update on my LR4 radio problems. See the battery recommendation thread...

The GAP app code export is broken so I had to take screenshots. Hard to recall how many of these existed before the infotainment issue. Battery voltage code I assume is due to the battery going dead, then being disconnected for a while and on a maintainer.

The rear liftgate has been an intermittent problem for a while and I have a new actuator on hand. I guess that could be water ingress related though since the rear roof tail light housing is cracked and leaks water in the rear area. Also have a new one of those I've been meaning to install.

U0256-00 / U0155-00 I think are where your problem lies. The interface that these codes are bitching about are where the power button for your radio lives. It's not going to comunicate if it's not getting turned on. I've seen this a bunch of times. You can just swap it out of another vehicle.

If I had these codes I would be looking for a known good one. But I wouldn't be at parts buying one to try.

I happen to have another one in my shop, if my kids haven't destroyed it yet. They like things with buttons. I'll try swapping it. Is there a special tool to slide in the side and pull it out?

Swapped the interface (power, volume, mode, etc.) I had on hand from Ebay. Bought last year just to fix a missing "MODE" button. Clock spun around, but no luck on the screen. Cleared codes and power cycled the accessory power a few times. Only these codes remained: U0184-00 "Lost communication with radio unit" (listed twice) and B12D6-00 "Fast door unlock/open actuator". I had the doors open so that might explain B12D6.

Swapped back to original interface and found no difference in fault codes. U0256-00 only came back when I unplugged one interface to swap another.

get with Blue on that audio head he bought. It didn’t fix his car.

these audio systems suck a little. It’s the one system it really helps to have a known good working system to swap out components.
While it’s apart look at your most ring the way I told Blue to do it in his thread.

Pulled the audio module to get the part # but found no red light coming from the MOST fiber. Pulled the Touch screen and found no red light coming from its MOST fiber either. Does this mean whatever is upstream of these is causing the issue? Vehicle was running when this photo was taken.

I ordered a new audio module just before I discovered this. Now I'm not sure it's needed.
Part # on my audio module was BH22-18C815-AD, but I found a newer BH22-18C815-AE that I hope works. Looking at photos, it appears mine is very different than Blue's DVD-capable module.

Let’s just go over this one time to make sure you’re doing this right. Connect all the modules but have them just sitting in there but not bolted down. With all plugged in and turned on unplug that most ring from the audio head. I believe the red light should be flashing in the connector from the touch screen to the audio head. I believe the touchscreen is the originator of the most ring. So when you unplug it and look down in it the light will be on solid and then start flashing. That would be the signal from the touchscreen.
I’m willing to pull my dash apart and check that but probably wouldn’t get to it till Tuesday.

Yes, sir.

Unplugged MOST connector soon after the system check completed. Nothin.

I then plugged it back in, restarted the vehicle, and pulled the MOST connector from the touch screen. Nothing.

Then I thought maybe it was giving up communicating before I got a chance to observe it, so I restarted the vehicle while looking at the MOST connector. Nothing. I repeated this on both the touchscreen and audio module sides.

If the touch screen is the MOST origin, then I wonder if it's not getting power. I'll try to probe it and check fuses again.
