I’m not sure but I think I saw a d2 with 2021 defender steel wheels on the other day on the road. Turns out the defenders also use a 5x120 lug pattern. Does anyone have any experience/insight on how they fit? Hopefully they do fit so we can finally get more options in the wheel department

I don't think that's possible. I've heard of guys machining out the center hole and enlarging the lug holes to put Disco2 wheels on a Defender or Disco1.

Think he’s talking about the new Defender. Those steel wheels fit LR3/4 so should fit a D2. There’s plenty of other more available and cheaper 18” wheel options out there for D2’s not to mention 16”, including steel wheels.

Those new Defender steel wheels are selling for CRAZY amounts of $$$ and I think they are awful looking, but to each their own.

Sorry. Yes I was talking about the new defender wheels. I’m not so much interested in the oem steel wheels. I’m more interested in the options the aftermarket “should” offer for the defender platform. My logic is…. If defender wheels fit a d2 pretty good then aftermarket wheels for a defender should also. At least I’m hoping

What’s wrong with factory wheels? Again plenty of aftermarket steel wheel options already exist. Even for the new Defender there is the TuffAnt option which is pretty good looking for a steel wheel imo

I'm pretty sure the bub bore is different between the P38/D2 and the rest of the 5x120 trucks.

I was looking for 18" wheels for an E53 X5. The hub bore for the LR3/Sport is compatible, but P38/D2 is not.

They are. A LR3/4 and other new Rovers will fit a D2/P38 but not the other way around (without some work). The D2/P38 has a smaller bore. Have seen folks fit D2 wheels on an LR3 by having the center bored out slightly

I'm not a huge aftermarket wheel guy. I have run a set of Black Rhino rims and they were fine, but I prefer the stock wheel offset and LR Alloy wheels are not your normal everyday aluminum wheel. They are very strong vs pretty much all aftermarket aluminum wheels.

If you want to play around with oem quality aluminum, there are lots of not-terrible-looking BMW wheels from the era that fit the lugs and in many different sizes/offsets.

@fishEH had a pic of a friend of his with 33s on some kind of BMW wheel.

You can find sets all over Craig's and Facebook for <$200

I like my stock alloys but want to do 35s. Will need increased offset and Not really a fan of spacers

A stock D2 rim has ET57: https://www.wheel-size.com/size/land-rover/discovery-2/2004/

A style 93 bmw is also 18x8, but offset of only ET24: http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/93

Style 69 from an E38 or E39, you can go all the way to ET20 or ET25 in a 9.5" wide: http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/69

Don't know if you're trying to go all the way down to 0 offset, but these are just some examples. The BMW wheel style site is a good resource for specs.

Or if you think beamer rims on your Rover as lame as hell, then by all means disregard 😁

Just for reference...

After looking through the style site, I'm pretty sure the rims that that dude had were style 132 or style 138.

Yep BMW wheels aren't a bad choice, just never come across any in decent shape. I get OEM LR rims especially Hurricanes for next to nothing or free in great shape. I have a set of Comets currently on my 99 D2 with 275/65R18's and they look great.

I agree if you're looking for a show car, but they're usually plenty fine for an off-roader...
I'd have to find em on FB Market Place. All the local LKQ or Wrench A Parts either take the wheels off before it hits the yard or the wheels left on it are completely trashed. Here is the pic of the style I've seen on LR's before.

They both use the same lug pattern. So really the only thing you need to consider with any new D2 or Defender wheel is the backspace or offset. That determines how far the wheel sits inside the wheel well or sticks outside the fender.

Most wheels offer a couple different backspace choices so just measure your current wheels so you know what to look for.
