Device for Clearing Codes

Looking for ideas on a device to clear codes on a D2, such as the three amigos or check engine.

I have a nano that I use for the P38 and Disco, but want an inexpensive device to leave in my son’s Disco.

Thanks.

You can find cheap code readers that use bluetooth and an app on your phone, but they won't clear ABS codes

My Scangauge II units are perfectly happy to clear some codes that end up causing Amigos, as Land Rover uses them differently, but they won't turn the lights off or give you actual SLABS codes. What they will do is allow immediate and reliable access to standard codes and tons of live data in an idiot-proof and well-designed product.

Mine's always on and giving me useful information, and blends in to pretty much any automotive interior. They're elegant as all hell, and deserve purchase simply for how much care was put into the design on all fronts. The company is serious about what they're doing.

While that won't meet all your requests, having one in a car is outstanding. It could be supplemented with one of those ABS Amigo things to fill out the capability; as it's not as if you're scanning those everyday. For live data and general use, you're not going to beat a Scangauge II for convenience and design.

Cheers,

Kennith

I'll throw in the Foxwell NT520 for $155 as a good piece of kit to diagnose the common Land Rover electrical faults, read and clear codes, reset adaptations, power bleed ABS and change EKA code.

F N Disco,
Does iCarsoft allow you to do:

1) Adaptation Resets
2)check the cruise control system

I know iLAND does, but iLAND/AB has issues according to some who have the iLAND.

I will check tonight when I get home, I have not had a need for those items.

When you say adaptation resets, could you be more specific?

O.K., you asked for it.

It's on a Youtube video from AB and it is explained more clearly there, but from what I saw, it is a reset of engine ECU operating parameters back to factory default settings. They say it should be done after you replace things like the MAF, O2 sensors, etc, because the ECU adjusts to continuously degrading performance of various controllers (MAF, O2 sensors) until they get out of acceptable specs, then the dash light goes on. When you replace the worn-out/faulty item, the ECU still retains the degraded performance parameters and will run with those unless and until the ECU is set back to default specs.

I believe i have explained it fairly accurately. And if so, I suspect many, if not most D2's are running around with degraded performance even though bad parts have been replaced and the Adaptation Reset has not been performed, especially by the DYI crowd. So folks complain their D2 still runs like crap and give up on 'em.

I've not heard of this before yesterday when I started sniffing around the Net and ren across the AB Youtube upload.
It's under "iLAND Diagnostic App: Discovery Engine & Transmission Adaption Reset"

I could be completely off base, but this could clean up a whole lot of Disco2 issues from a whole lot of folks.

I checked on the iCarsoft LRII

  1. I do not see any adaptive resets
  2. There is an option to check the cruise control but, I don't know exactly what the tool is checking for as mine has no faults

I was about to reccomend the Hawkeye...but given post #17 I see that may be out of the question haha.

For what it is worth, I purchased a Hawkeye through Cross Axled Customs in the US and it performs flawlessly. I have investigated ABS, Airbag, Suspension, etc. faults with it and still feel that I have not used even half of the device's capability.

Hmmm... alright, trying to avoid paying out for a Hawkeye... Can the Autel handle adaptive resets?
No. It is a reader, not a programmer.

But...

You do realize that the first highlight does not jive with the second highlight?
It either does adapt, or it doesn't, and our ECUs adapt.
When you change a part, it may take a few days, but the computer will adapt to the new conditions. You resetting them to factory will just make it happen a little bit quicker, if at all faster.
