Just a note that I purchased a Y tube with both cats on it for my disco 1 - $289 with free shipping, and I just installed them. Fit was perfect. They are made in Canada - I got mine in about a week. Can't beat the price and easy to do yourself (well not EASY, but you know what I mean....)

One cat went bad on my son's 98 D1 back in May - we ordered this same Y tube from ebay, from Canada. Back then it was $222.00 with free shipping. Took two weeks to get it. No issues at all after ~ 2400 miles.

Thanks for this. Wondering why it says Not compatible with my 96 D1 4,0?
edit: found a 96-specific version - $294.
I bought my car from CA - does that have any bearing on compatibility?
A shop here in NYC said I needed CA-compliant...doesn't make sense...

Great question. If you are not in CA and registering it out of state you should be fine. I will find out this friday when I register mine in Oregon. I also bought mine in CA - so I hope they don't make an issue of it. In the past when registering a car here - the smog "test" is simply plugging a meter into the OBD plug and checking for any codes. They never even open the hood or get under the car. I will post the results of the smog test when I get it done.

The Ebay seller did confirm that the above will still work with my 96.
For the price, I'm not going to quibble - but am wondering if there's any performance downside
compared to Magnaflow etc. Am guessing not much...
I did register in NJ, and passed emissions twice.
The muffler shop guy seemed to suggest it was a mechanical compatibility, (meaning I had to have CA-compliant catalysts),
but that seems farfetched...

OK - I just passed smog test in OR with these cats no problem. You might check the rules in your state - in OR after 20 years there are no smog requirements - so this will be the last smog test for this car! I am not seeing any performance difference. Maybe they won't last as long? I think there might be some state rule about the guy at the shop having to put on what was on the car when manufactured - but shouldn't effect you doing it yourself. I know at least in CA the shops will not put on Federal emissions equipment even if the car is not being registered there...
