Hey everyone,

i tracked down a persistent leak to the oil pressure switch right above the oil filter. It's a 24mm (measured new switch) but there is no way to get a socket or wrench in there to take it out.

What do you use to accomplish this? Any pics of how you did it is GREATLY appreciated!!

I use a small Crescent wrench, still a pain in the balls but it works.. half turn flip it around etc.

P.S. do not use the Allmakes brand .

This was the only oil leak on my 98 D1. I used an open end wrench and got it off within seconds. The new oil pressure switch I got was a different size (outer diameter) vs the OEM unit, but I just used a slightly smaller open end to install it. After that I used some brake clean to spray down the area to check for leaks. Took me maybe 5min from start to finish.

I grabbed one from Auto Zone 15.00. Looks like a quality oil pressure switch to me. Came with the metal washer, and new oring (reason my old unit was leaking).

All o fmy trucks have the AllMakes variants in them, haven't had a problem.

I have had problems with Genuine leaking after a while. The problem is they leak badly!

Remember, these trucks are older and there are no "Genuine" parts, and when they were new, the manufacturer was whoever owned the license ot use the Lucas name at the time.

Are the allmakes brand terrible? I just got one from Atlantic British.

My OEM switch lasted over 15 years before it started to leak from the ceramic area. I replaced it with an Allmakes brand and the oil light stayed on most of the time and it started leaking after 7-8 months . I bought one from Rockauto and the light does not stay on and it does not leak. Knock on wood :)
