Hello All,

Upon walking out to my 1996 Disco after work today, I found the rear window shattered. The window was still intact, but it was in about 3000 pieces. I could find no point of impact, nor any projectile (the lawn crew was on site today).

I have heard stories of windows blowing out of cars in the summer if the car was sealed (urban myth?). It was 92 degress here today, but all 4 windows were down and my front sun roof was open.

Any similar stories? Weak glass? Angry beavers?

Thanks!

Broken Rear Glass

I would bet that someone or something hit your glass and shatter it. The only other way for glass to shatter is by extreme temperature changes if there is a fracture on the glass. The change from cold to hot or vise versa can cause the small fracture to either shrink or expand shattering the glass. On your case more than likely a small rock or something of that nature got launched your direction.....

Tempered glass is very resistant to temperature change. It also will not have a small fracture in it. Tempered glass is either in one piece or 1000 pieces; there's no in between.

I work at a glass shop and we go behind lawn crews at least once a week.
