Does anyone have a good replacement part for this grommet? I looked through parts at the hardware store and didn’t find anything my Goldilocks D2 would find suitable - everything was too big, too small, or wasn’t a double flange design. Does anyone know how to properly describe this part? Rubber grommet, double flange? Something like in the image below would be great, as long as it’s the right size. It needs to fit into the hold in the car’s sheet metal and the hole in the grommet needs to be just the right size to allow the pin to move freely, while preventing it from getting lost inside the car’s body. If I find a suitable part, I’ll link it here, but if anyone has a good replacement, please share.57096

Is this the right part? ALR8770

What are the parts on the sides of the seal in the center? It looks like the part in the center doesn’t have a hole all the way through it, though it could be the photo.

This is the grommet that goes onto the actuator pole to hold it in the correct position in the car’s body?

Any alternative parts that work from a D1 or another model?

Can someone measure their grommet and the hole in it? I might have to just make something.

This is how I dealt with the grommet issue - bought this part at Home Depot for $2 (2 Pack) and shoved it in there, which took some work and the help of a very small flathead screwdriver. The hole in the body where the actuator solenoid pin sticks out is about 3/8”. This grommet holds the pin well and it works very well. The clip on the fuel door has no problem grabbing it easily each them and letting it loose. The pin doesn’t get lost behind the sheet metal body anymore. There are grommets you can buy online (maybe one that’s about 3/8-1/2”) and you can punch a hole through it if it’s a blank grommet. There are grommet sets on eBay for about $8.

My door was basicly flspping in the wind for a couple years. finally bought the little plastic clip thing that is supposed to be there from RN. upon install it broke almost instantly. i was able to secure it with a tiny sheetmetal screw. So far ok. if ot breaks again the door is coming off.

It looks like the grommet on your solenoid pin is gone.

Are you saying the pin retracts back into the body? That's what I'm interpreting you as saying - when you push the binnacle button, the solenoid retracts, the pin flops around and gets hung up on the inside of the sheet metal.

If so, you need to replace the grommet - not sure if you can get the part separately (ask Will Tillery) or if you have to buy the whole solenoid part. You may be able to just buy a rubber one at Low Depot.

Like this grommet:

The grommet supports the retracting rod as it withdraws into the body. Without the grommet the retracting rod will fall into the body cavity. New retracting kits do not include the grommet. The link above points you to the solution. I used a wire grommet to fit the 3/8" hole and now the rod fully retracts but does not fall into the body as it is supported by the (unseen) inside shoulder of the grommet. To access the rod mechanism you must remove the upper right rear panel in the cargo area, then the lower panel. The rod mechanism is installed with two 8mm flange nuts and mount as far forward as possible in the elongated slots.. Test the connection for 12v present as your assistant presses the release button on the dash.
