Is it just me, or does DWeb seem more active in the past couple weeks?

We've had more registrations in the last few weeks than we have had in a while. I'm working on a new design for the front page, too. It's a landing page designed to get you to the forums more quickly:

"Now usually I don't this but...uh...go ahead and break 'em off a little preview of the remix."

If you're looking at this on a smartphone or tablet, I'd appreciate it if you could post up a screen shot along with the model of your device. I only have an iPhone 6 Plus and that's hardly typical.

Those front pages look very nice.

I cant post a screen shot on my iPhone 5, as the top button is broken, but with the phone vertical everything lines up perfectly and fits well, move the phone horizontal and everything shifts but the Discoweb logo which then blocks the "Enter Discoweb Forums" Button.

Being in Africa, my internet is obviously slower, but the fast scrolling of images doesn't give time for an image to load completely. So as it scrolls, I get a little more of each image in sequence. If that makes sense...

All the photos are cool, but I would personally suggest picking the best image and having a simple landing page.

Below are low-res images of what I'm describing in portrait.

And in landscape, the button disappears behind the logo on all pages.

iPhone 5, by the way.

OK, thanks. Looks like I still have some work to do. I thought only eight year-olds used their iPhones in landscape mode. :p

I like it. The page displays fine for me. But I don't even have a smartphone, so my clunky laptop does the job okay.

I've changed a setting that controls how the forum marks threads as "read". This should improve the problem where threads you haven't read yet are marked as read.

Glad I checked this thread, I thought my shop computer had just come out of a year long coma. Every thread looked new. Not complaining, I'll adjust. Thanks for all you are doing Chris!:patriot:

Stick with it for a few days, guys, and try the trick Dan mentioned. I think you'll find that the unread/read status of posts is actually working once again. Prior to the change, posts would get marked as read even when they were never read. I was wondering why this place felt so dead and then I realized that most threads had new (to me) posts that I never saw because they were marked as caught-up.

Is anyone else's unread list holding old messages?

That is, previously, when I visited DWeb, behind the scenes, all posts were marked as read. When I'd return, only new posts since my last visit were marked as new.

Now, stuff I've read days ago is marked as new every time I visit.

Is this just me?

Thanks!

EDIT: Oops. I should've read this whole thread. I will say, I don't care for this feature. (Just my opinion, don't shoot me.)

Paxton, read some threads and let the system catch up and you should see threads only being marked unread when they actually have new posts. The new style uses the database (rather than cookies) to keep track of what you've read. Works better if you're browsing from multiple computers.

Once you guys have caught up on posts (or marked all as read like Dan suggests) and if you're still seeing the issue, let me know and I can adjust. I do find that it works quite well once you've caught up.
