Does an '02 have a locking T-case?

I believe that if it was built prior to 2001 it does. My 2001 has a build date of December 2000. And I have the nip and a cdl cable hooked to it
You are correct. Most north america 02' center diff do not have the ability to lock. That being said, I would still crawl under and see if a PO had converted it.

At this point, it may have a replacement locking case, even though it likely left the UK with a non-locking one.

I've heard if the build date was before April 01, they had it. Mine was built in May and didn't have it. But no sense checking the build date when its just as easy to look under to see if its there

1999 - 2001.5 had them.... from factory... 2001.5 - 2003... removed.. As mentioned, yours may have been retrofitted, you can reach up there and check it..

This is on a truck I'm looking at buying. It's a one owner '02 with 89k miles. I'm sure the Tcase is original. The owner doesn't have e a clue. I asked him if it had a locking transfercase and he said he thinks so, "it's a beast I'll the snow". Meanwhile I can see the TC shifter in the pic is not for a locking one.

Easy enough to swap in a locking front housing. I used an earlier unit without the forward facing switch to tell the slabs it is in difflock. I wired a switch at the dash for that purpose. Works fine. Just be sure to make enough clearance for the shifter throw if you use the early assembly. The 04 cable shifter would be preferred.

You're a D1 guy, no wonder your asking.

Some do, some don't. If it's too far away to check and the owner is an idiot, you're going to have a hard time being sure without someone else checking.

I wouldn't buy one just because it's early production and assume it's got the locker.

Cheers,
