Door lock delay

Not sure if this is really a problem, but here goes. In my 1996 D1, when i lock my driver's side door, all the other locks close as they should, but there is a small delay in the right rear passenger door lock. I hear them all lock, but the right rear passenger lock goes down just a fraction of a second or so later, as if it is on some type of delay. It has been doing this for a long time, but is there some impending breakdown looming in the future? Is there anything I should do at this point or just let it be and see what happens? Thanks.

My 95 has the same issue....all works fine but is a little slower than it used to be....I'm ready to replace the actuators when they need it.

Those sure are interesting. What is the "nearly fit" deal? Do they just require a slight mod to fit?

I personally haven't installed them, Chris says basically none. Maybe he can chime in if he sees this:

I have taken mine out before and these look like they have a universal mounting bracket that would prob. be pretty straightforward.

Looking through the old thread, it looks like it's just a wiring mod. The last post has the Parts Express --> Rover conversion.

True, but I needed the driver's door 5 wire one and you can't buy that one separately. =)

Ahh....makes sense. My drivers side door is OK (of course..it will crap out now) so I just needed a couple 'normal' ones and a few spares.

My actuators showed up today...they look pretty good. I'll be installing at least two of them tonight....

Well, I installed one of the actuators in my rear door and it kicks ass, that thing really pops. Bolts right in. Freakin' awesome.

I installed one of these in the front passenger door today. Note that for the front door I had to modify the mounting bracket a little to get a good fit. I just drilled two new holes between the two sets that are already drilled into the mounting plate and moved the rubber bushings into those holes. Also, I cut about 1/8" of those white "hat" like bushings that press into the rubber grommets. When you do that it allows a little bit of the actuator to penetrate the grommets to keep it nice and secure.

Now to go install the last one...once I am done only my drivers side door will be using the OE actuator, but that one works OK.

Has anyone experienced the broken spring in the mechanical doings which are all a one part deal in the door or the Disco I? My accuators work fine but the lock just nees a little more travel to let you open the door. Like a 1/8 ". Maddening. I though it was in the linkage at first and tried everything ... finally I took out the outside handle and peared in from that dorectiopn with a flashlight and say the spring whihc helped things along in the 'Lock mechinsim' I havet pulled it out yet as I have to take out th window and the traveling rail to do it. Looks like a pain in the ass to do. Not sure but it looks like that Mechinism is a one piece deal and the spring might not be replaceable. Has anyone take that locking mechinism apart? Where can I get a spring for it. They are the blue colored springs in the mechinism .. there are two of springs in it.. Maybe someone can tell me if It can be replaced or need I buy a used mechinism.... Thanks

BTDT...on every door.

The little springs in the latch will break but you can score those on eBay for a few bucks. Installing them is not real tough. Pulling the window frame up and out of the way is not as hard as it sounds, its really pretty easy.

FWIW, on our Disco just replacing the broken latch springs was not enough, my actuators were 'lazy' and would not always give the latch the nudge it needed. With the new actuators everything works great 100% of the time. Of course...I could always open the doors...but now people without the 'Rover touch' can also open them without pulling up on the lock ;-)
