I've developed a very noticeable driveline clunk in my 2013 LR4. There is a loud clunk most often heard when coasting and slowing down for a stop sign or stop light and the auto trans shifts down to second (or first?). Also clunks sometimes when upshifting while driving slowly like in a parking lot. I've also heard it a few times when shifting from reverse to drive when backing out of a parking spot and the driveline starts to take up the slack. It's the kind of clunk you hear and feel.

I really can't get this thing back in the shop until Thursday or Friday - any idea what it could be and should I worry about driving?

My first though is control arms, but that normally wouldn't clunk on an upshift. If the fluids never been changed, I'd say you're ready for it.

I was thinking about the LCA bushings but this really seems to be driveline related. I had my 75K service nearly 10,000 miles ago right at 75K miles. This included transfer case service and locking rear diff service but I'm not seeing anything about the transmission. I will have to inquire...

Do you have a check engine light on? If you can duplicate your noise just putting it in gear have someone do that for you and see if you can pinpoint the noise a little better. Not sure how that cam / crank correlation fault could be your drivetrain clunk

Letting it cool down after taking son to school, then will crawl under and have a look around.

Turned out to be a simple bad passenger side engine mount making the clunk. The check engine light went off the day after it went on and hasn’t come back. Mechanic suggested replacing mounts (has to order them) and not worry about fault codes unless they come back. Engine and transmission are running fine, chains are fine on engine. He said if there truly is a mechanical issue with crank & camshafts being out of synch then may entail a full chain job, which would be most unfortunate.
