My D1 never burns oil but now I recall it burning oil during hill descent will in diff lock and 2nd gear. Is this normal . It never burns oil (white smoke) in other driving modes.

If it's actually smoking enough for you to see it, you should be able to go to the outlet of your exhaust and rub you finger around the inside of the pipe and see if it's oil or coolant. The fact that your in HDC, diff lock & 2nd gear means nothing. It's the level of the truck when your in these modes that's causing your smoke (or steam). Either way, it shouldn't be dumping oil or coolant into the cylinders. First thing to do is find out which it is. Different problems, different solutions.

The white smoke is from the exhaust and there is only carbon at the exhaust. It happens during prolonged hill descent when the engine is braking and with the window down, smells like burning oil.
