Having driven from Seattle to southern Florida with > 1,000 pounds of stuff in the LR3, I'm enjoying the natural spaces and adapting to a different kind of coastal life. So far the most challenging terrain has been sandy beaches and potholed dirt roads in parks, so no sweat for the truck. The bird life is phenomenal and the thing I enjoy most is seeing so many familiar plants from my time living in southern Africa. Reminds me of home.

I've made the most of free time to go kayaking in the mangrove mazes of Sanibel Island, riding bikes around the island, hiking in Fakahatchee Strand and Caloosahatchee state park and Lovers Key, plus dawn birding in the Cypress wildlife refuge. And pretty much any time I want I can drive down to the causeway islands to watch the sunset from the tailgate of the Rover. There's a lot more to see and I'm looking forward to a multi-day canoe trip through the Everglades, camping on elevated platforms called chickees.
