Word on the street is that theres a few designs floating around out there for a external front shock mount, that allows the springs to use drop out cones, any one tried this, or have any rough Ideas on how TO!! thanks alot
i make one, but there are a few others out there too (rockware, $G, MJ Lee)
you may want to rethink the drop cone idea for the front.
there are two reasons you would want to run an external shock.
first is to put a huge long travel shock (works best w/ 3-link) and second to retain that front spring.
retained springs are much better for the stuff we run in Utah versus cones.
cones will unload at the worst possible moments, where as retainers will act as a counter force on the vehicle making the front and rear more balanced. obstacles like the Z-steps on Moab rim are a great example of where retainers work better than cones.
the retainers will keep the truck tight as you climb the steps, the cones will unload as you climb making it very difficult to manuver.
do a search on Pirate 4x4 in the Land rover section for external front shocks. there will be a lot more information over there than there will be here.
