i changed my serp. belt the other day. while it was off i rotated the fan to check it for play and the fan man a sort of whinning sound. it wasn't that loud and it did not have slop or play in it. The rotation was free and smooth but there was this little bit of a whine to it. Is this normal? or is this the first sign of it going out?

Fan Clutch

Your clutch should be fine unless you start getting overheating problems with your disco. I wound't worry about noise unless you want to use some preventive measures and change things before they go bad!!!!

no it's not normal.

but you will be fine until the bearings completely go out.
new viscous units run about $300, and can be a bitch to replace.
not impossible, but stuborn.

Not that exspensive!

About a year ago I thought my alt. was going bad. It was the fan bearing. The guy at the Alt shop fixed it for $20.00
