I'm getting the headliner redone in my G4. Cost is $200 for removing, new material, labor and installation. I couldn't argue with that price!

You'll sure be able to argue with the results, though.

I wouldn't smell someone's DII headliner for $200...

I just pulled mine and plan on not putting back until I manage to find where all water is coming in from.

Maybe I'll never put it back.

There's upholstery, and then there's stripping down and upholstering one of these and keeping it intact on the way back in.

It's a pain in the ass. Most upholstery shops butcher the job, and most private owners butcher the job. I'll be painting mine or something when I'm done with the new console up there. There are many options. I've saved every picture that I've seen posted here and noted what was done, just in case I decide to try a particular method.

These would have been better at two-piece units. That's the way I would have done it.

One of the problems is you have to install it at the same location it's been repaired. It's too big to go hauling around elsewhere unless you've got a large van. Trailers and pickups are a no-go, even if you cover it.

As for this thread, I think the camo is ugly, but I'm not driving it, and it's not a performance, safety, or exterior aesthetic issue. That being the case, it's just a matter of fucking around on the weekend and doing something fun. Ugly, but fun.

Cheers,

Kennith

To each his own I guess. I've done two myself, and it wasn't that bad. You have to be meticulous about it. Mine came out great. I'm a little OCD though.

$50 for the local Line-X guy to spray it. Did both of our Discovery IIs. Used a shop-vac to get the foam off, took about 30 min per headliner.

I never notice the headliner(s) when driving, but i did notice the sagging fabric.... I recovered the RRC with fabric, but its much simpler, and if it sags before im done with it i'll line-x that one too.

That was the going price down in Chicago a couple years ago. That's why I say they have to do something like do the fabric with the headliner in place and just pillar trim pulled off. How else could they do it for that cheap.I never saw any issues with them after the job was done. I bet I saw 6 get done by them and no complaints from the owner of the truck. $200 is less than 2 hours of labor for me. That shit won't happen for 200, so how do they do it that cheap?

i'd considered the rhino lined route (it looks fantastic). When/if i get bored with my rattle can camo i'll likely go that route...assuming i havent replaced this rig by then.

That actually looks really good. My 2004 is sagging, I like your solution.

Taking apart mine these coming weekend, by the way, how do you remove the last piece in the rear (right on the jamb of the rear door) on top. Perhaps someone that done can lead me. Doing matte undercoating black will post pictures

once you remove everything holding it in up front, let it drop (while a set of helping hands support it) and pull towards front a hair to get it out of that channel in the rear.

once its out of that rear channel, i dropped the whole thing on one side and it basically slid right out. Just watch for any catching on the rear seats (its easier if you drop them flat).

if you're referring to the plastic trim at the top in the middle...it is pretty tough but grab on each end and pull straight out firmly....will take some persuading....there's like five or six slotted fasteners holding it on. then theres just 2 push in fasteners holding the actual headliner behind that.
