Don't people get 300tdi and td5 in the country all the time?

I wasn't referring to the issues with importing it; I was referring to the fact that you'll be diving into God-knows-what kind of issues. ECU's, wiring harnesses, Murphy's law? And when you're done you'll have...........a fucking Freelander.

If you want it that bad, consider waiting a few years. You'll be able (in theory) to import a complete TD4 Freelander. The first models came out when, 1997? So in 2022 those will be 25 years old (assuming the TD4 was available the first year). The good news is the price of a 25-year old Freelander will be low. The bad news is that a 25-year old Freelander will be in lousy shape. And it will be a 25-year old Freelander. But if that's what you love and that's what you want then go for it. There's no accounting for taste. For reasons I don't understand I still think about buying a P38 sometimes. It's a foolish idea, but something about them appeals to me.

It can't be much different than tossing a 300tdi and/or r380 into a D2?

Ha same here.

There's a Callaway that's been at a used lot here for a year and is down to $1995...so tempted.

This is exactly whats going to happen. I was thinking fuel system from the tank t the injection pump, glow plugs, pull the dash to get the manual trans pedal box. The whole cooling system could be different. Your really going to need to get your hands on the whole truck. I just think too much shit would be needed.

I want a P38. If I find a good example I'm going to try to own it. I have a project right now that's got to be done or close to done before I can do it. I've always liked them. But it would have to be a GEMS truck. Probably try to find a speacial edition like a Callaway.

So, its not like dropping a 300tdi-r380 in a disco...

I know they made the P38 with a manual trans, but just because I've seen the service info for that. Never saw one in person.

I've seen it in person. It came on the diesels. Not sure if it was the R380 but the engine was the BMW 2.5 6-cyl.
